Sometimes others can really hit you at the wrong time, and then when it happens theres nothing you can do about it..
All night i suffered with some fluish symtoms, stomach and headache, nauseated, feverish, body all achie feeling, weakness.. all i could worry about was calling out at work and how the other employees are going to have to handle it without me.. it was a descion that took me HOURS to finally do.. i called my job and one of the higher managers answers, i said i have to call out today i'm ill.. her response was so sarcastically spoken.. "oh... thats.... not... good..." and then repeated it the same way.. my response was, "i'm so sorry".. her next response was.. "you better watch your attendance".. i said.."my attendance?.. my attendance is fine.." (i have never missed a day of work).. she said, "is it?" i said yes.. she said .."okay".. i didn't feel well enough to keep on with this conversation.. i said "thank you, bye".. and after that i felt WORSE.. why..? Did she expect me to turn around and say..oh nevermind i'll be right there?..The conversation should of been okay, i hope you feel better, get some rest see you tomorrow.. i felt harrassed and very uncomfortable(by the way this manager is a very lazy person who get others to do all her work while she sits in the office.. until the big guy comes in then she rushes to an isle acting like she is working, this is not an exaggerated statement). I know she would had to of get up out the office and take my place for afew, i think that upset her.. i couldn't help that..The first sign we see as we clock in says.. "if you are sick please see management" the reason for that is they don't want others getting ill and thats my reasons to call out.. so others don't get it and the fact i'm not feeling good enough to handle the job..it happens.. I'm wondering is there some kind of law that protects us from this, or is getting sick another reason for an employer to make you feel like you are a nobody, she harrassed me.. to ease my frustration on top of feeling so sick.. all i could do was Breathe In.. Breathe Out.. i do know that sometimes this is the best thing we can do.. but talk to me while i'm in good health AT WORK.. not on the phone while im half passed out not even in the right mind..
Anyone ever come across something like this.. or had to handle a situation and felt all you could do was.. Breathe In.. Breathe Out..
Breathe In.. Breathe Out..

Oh Imagin! Gurl! I would be so mad. First off I hope you are feeling better. I never ever did that to people when they were too sick to come in to work. I accepted the call and went on with the day. The only time I was allowed to question anyone was when they had attendance issues. In some cases, if 3 or more days were missed, we required a doctors note before they returned to work. You are entitled to sick/personal days right? They shouldn't be giving you a hard time if you haven't exceeded that time. She obviously needs some training in how to manage and be a bit more professional. Ugh! I would be livid if I were you.
Don't think about it until you feel better. There is no logical reason why you should be worried. I had to breathe in and breathe out when I read what she that lazy woman did to you >:( -

Froggy, i've never missed a day.. i'm probably entitled to a month off.. yes maybe if there was an issue with my attendence i might of appreciated a suttle reminder which would be understandable, i really feel she had no right to treat me that way, putting me on this quilt trip because she has to work a little extra, it was over authoritively done (if thats a word) i'm in management and i would NEVER do that to a sick employee even if it was an issue, any issues about attendence should be discussed at work while on the clock, that is a policy..yes i have had to back my staff when others have called in sick, yes it was a little more work involved, i didn't mind it at all.. because when you're sick you're sick and i wouldn't want you there..
Thank you Froggy, i appreciate your comments, it does make me feel better.. i'm okay i've been sleeping most of it away -

That is so awful Imagin. As Froggy says, don't even think about what that woman said until you go back to work. She had no right to treat you like that.
We used to get phonecalls all the time from employees who were sick and the same thing happened as happened with Froggy, you have to accept it and move on. Your boss/supervisor/lazy wench had no right to make you feel so bad about not going in when clearly, you should be at home.
I hope you feel better soon.

Oh imagin... I am so sorry you are sick... as for the nasty mean witch of a woman, please consider the source and don't take her hurtfulness to heart! The problem is obviously with her and to allow herself to behave that way toward another person, that problem is deep seated.
A very good idea is to document this while it is fresh in your mind. Get the details on paper. If she has acted this way once, there are already or will be other such transgressions. Then you can decide if you want to take the problem on now or have the details for a later follow-up. She has a superior also. You could start with a short talk with her... perhaps in a meeting with a witness and go up the ladder after that.

I really don't understand what makes employers this way. I don't think there is one of us that have not been somewhat afraid to call in sick. It is like your committing a major crime and there is no empathy at all that your sick.
They should be happy that you had the decency to let them know you would not be at work. You make a valid point and there really needs to be more laws on this. Just like when they interview for a job an employer is not allowed to ask by law your age, if your married, kids etc.
In all honesty there is probably not much you can do in this situation because she didn't insist you come in and there is not much of a case as far as the labor board is concerned due to it was all "attitude".
Maybe you can speak to someone who is over her head and express how bad she made you feel and she can be talked to and get an attitude adjustment.

Sounds like that lady has some power trip issues. Seriously....instead of telling you to feel better, take it easy and don't worry about anything at work - we will be just fine, she makes you worried, upset, ticked and certainly not able to relax and sleep away your illness.
I had a manager once who did similar things. When I became a manager and then a business owner, I vowed never to treat people like crap. Well, unless they called in every Monday and then on Tuesday spoke of the wild weekend they had.
Hard as it is, try not to giver her another thought.
Feel Better!
And...
Call in sick on another day - when you are feeling fabulous - and have a really FUN sick day. You deserve it after she ruined your one authentic sick day. -

Thank you everyone, and with everyone i do agree.. there should be a law against this kind of stuff, i know our policy does state that no work related issued can be discussed off the clock, i don't wish any hardships or meaness on anyone, but in this case i do beleive she needs a taste of her own medicine, maybe she can feel what goes around comes around.. beside that it was insensitive and cruel even, policy or not, if thats the person she is id never want her as a friend, mother, sister, maybe she was abused as a child and we should pray for her healing.. or did have a hard day and wasn't thinking correctly in her position.. (but as far as i see she seems to be that big headed and it's something inside herself) i didn't say anything to anyone about this.. but push me once i let it sly, push me twice sh*ts gonna fly...
Thank you everyone for all your response, i feel much better but only because of your kind responses and wonderful support.. -

I think it is around like aisle 972 that you can find nice little hatchets in with the camping gear!
