Brother in law left for dead........

Hi all, this story goes about the little brother of my wife..

Automobilist seriously injured biker and left him for dead in St. Michielsgestel

Sint Michielsgestel 6/9/2013 - A cyclist is Saturday night around midnight seriously injured after an accident with a car in St. Michielsgestel. The driver left the man to his fate.

The accident happened at the intersection of the Gestelseweg and Schijndelseweg. Another motorist saw the man lying on the ground and alerted the emergency services. Who found the man seriously injured on the road. Near him was a damaged bike, which the front wheel and handlebars were bent.

More than an hour was the ambulance personnel engaged in the care of the man. Then he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with a head injury. Several ambulances and an air ambulance were on the spot. The helicopter brought a doctor who went to the hospital with the man. According to a witness, the victim had lost a lot of blood.

And then: at 4.30 this morning police stood at our door, the man who is injured is the little brother of my wife. He is in the hospital in Tilburg now at Intensive Care, this afternoon he was operated from 12 o'clock till 8 just now. He has  been back from this now for 20 minutes. They are now slowly gonna bring him back out of the coma they brought him in. He is stable now but the future is not clear.

Please all pray for him that he is gonna make it and comes out not all too bad...............

And that the driver reports himself or will be found and brought to justice. In 90% of the cases a driver drives thrue, there is alcohol or drugs in play.........and thats just a big no go when driving!!

Thinking of you and your family at what must be a really tough time.  I hope your brother in law pulls through ok and they get the person that did this to him.

I surely sympathise with your brother in law since I am a cyclist myself and was very very close to an accident a couple of weeks ago due to an idiot driver, wasn't drunk as far as I could tell, just plain stupid. Luckily I managed to avoid contact with his car and somehow kept my balance on the bike as well but it was quite scary...

It's really awful what happened to your brother in law. My thoughts are with you and your family. I really hope that the police will arrest the driver responsible for this.

Nothing is more fearful than getting a knock on the door at that hour in the morning because it is always almost news we don't want to hear. Bless the man that called emergency services and scorn the man who left him there for dead.

Think positively and the power of prayer from all your family and friends will help him back to a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him, you, your wife and entire family at this time.

Hi all, thank you all for youre kind words, here's an update:

SCHIJNDEL, A 31 year old man from Schijndel was arrested because he would have been in a serious accident in St. Michielsgestel involved. The man has reported himself to the police. He had saturday with his car hit a 33 year old cyclist from St. Michielsgestel and driven through. The cyclist was seriously injured.
The victim is listed in critical condition in hospital and is still there. (he is kept in an artificial coma still, problaby gonna lose on eye, they did for more then 10 hours reconstructive surgery to his face, they lifted his skull for releasing the pressure on his brains. Don't know in what state he his gonna come out of this (Johan))

The police did after the accident a call to look for a bright blue car with damage. Also on Facebook asked acquaintances of the victim to people with information to report to the police.

After this the police received tips that the man from Schijndel possible was involved in the accident. An acquaintance of the man from Schijndel would have called, and the man was arrested in his house. His car was seized for technical examination.

So far the update, i am glad they caught him. It was problably eating away on his conscience. Only now there's no way to proof whether he had too many too drink or did drugs, cause by now thats outta his system.
But for the law that does not matter, here you go for manslaughter either way, if you have been drinking and hit somebody, or when you hit somebody and drive through makes no difference.

it's strange, i thought i would be happy when the perpetrator was caught. But i am not, John is still in the hospitall............

I can understand how you feel and i don't think it is strange that your not happy he has been caught. The main concern here is your brother in-law and i can only imagine what you are all going through right now. When things are critical everything else seems to not be so important.

Hang in there and know the LCB family is supporting you and sending positive energy and prayers your way.

My prayers are with your family. First and foremost, I hope he is released from the hospital in good health. Then I hope that the justice is served.

I'm so glad they got him and I can understand it doesn't really make you feel any better.  Your poor brother in law sounds like he is in a really bad way.  I hope he pulls through this.

Glad they caught him, it's one step in the right direction. Now everybody can focus on your brother in law's recovery, hopefully it won't be long before he gets better...

I'm glad that they found him, Thank you for the update, it surely isn't easy to write about that.

Hopefully, you're brother in law will get better soon.

In the USA we have way more of this happening, the moral code is going downhill.

I shall speak to my Savior regarding your BIL. I will pray and ask that he recovers fully as possible and lives on.

I hope that driver spends a lot of time behind bars.

I totally know how you feel, and it's not a nice place to be. Cyclists are truly endangered in Holland, despite all the tracks and regulations going in their favor. A few years back, my sister who lives in Den Haag had a major accident while cycling to work when she ran into a dog leash across the cycling path. The owner of the dog just let her pet cross the path while she stayed on the other side - a death trap for anyone cycling there! My sister suffered some major injuries and it took her ages to recover. And for us, it was a stress we'll never forget.

But Dutch doctors are great and I truly believe your BiL will get better with their help, perhaps sooner than you think! And that's the most important thing for the time being.

Today he smoked his first cigarette since the accident, he has one critical operation on his long, but slightly it seems to going in the right direction. At least through the doctors eyes.
His facial reconstruction is done, almost 200 grams of metal in his head, Now its a long way of healing ahead of him.
I wish to thank you all for youre kind and supporting words and prayers and thaughts.
I am sure my BiL will thank you all in person when time comes, i told him i shared his story on the forum and he said (wrote): i will read it and comment it when time comes (never did think about that he is a Lcb,er also)

That's great news Johan, I'm so happy that he's on the path to recovery. It will surely be a lengthy process but I think that the worst is behind him now, things can only get better from this moment on. And I hope he'll be back in the bike saddle before too long

That really is great news to hear that he's well on the road to recovery and had his first ciggy.  I bet he enjoyed that!
