  • Anyone here know anything about buying and investing in silver.

Ive been looking to purchase some since I feel the price is at a low point, but still have a bunch of questions about it.

    1. should i buy coins or bars?

    2. Wheres the best place to buy it? Local store, Jewelry stores? online?

    3. Since there will likely be fees associated with buying and selling it, how much does it need to go up before you sell it? How much are the fees and what should i expect to pay basically

    3. is it actually worth investing in? Should I lok at stocks, gold, etc. I dont have  alot of money, so I thought silver would be best since its about $20 a bar and should never really go out of style. It may drop in price but it will never go out of business or completely be worhtless, my opinion on the matter anyways.

    thanks in advance

  • That does not seem like a bad investment but not sure how much silver goes up in value over time. Gold has skyrocketed and is very expensive now. Hope some members can offer some good advice because i am not too familiar with silver.

  • Silver is at about $20 right now for an ounce. It went way up over the summer to about $50 then dropped hard. I figured it would and have been waiting for it to get back down to about where it is before i did anything. Im sure it will go back up again, but i still have many questions before I do anything. Im not looking to get rich quick, its a long term investment and I plan on buying a little at  atime, maybe $200 a month worth or so. Thats still a decent chink of change for me so I want to make sure its a wise investment.

As you said, hopefully osmoeone can help us out a bit. Would be cool to start an investment club or something where we can all share our thoughts, experiences and so on.

  • Found this article which seems pretty legit. Lots of good adivce form what i can tell. Sort of a buying silver and gold for dummies if you will.

From what I gather, buying coins seems the way to go. But, i still have a question on whther or not to buy Canadian or american. Canadian silver coins are a bit cheaper. I dont know why, as an ounce of silver should be worth the same wherever. this part still confuses me.

I do think that buying any type of commerative, collector or something of the sort coin is not worth it.

I found some where the premium is only $2.50 which seems to be a good deal after shopping around. Free shipping as well.

Ill keep you updated on my purchase and how it goes after I figure out whether or not to get american Eagle silver coins or the Canadian Maple Leaf ones.

  • Do some research online - look at what you can sell it for against how much it costs right now.  Make sure it's a reputable place that you buy it from - you don't want to end up with a dud!
