I was reading this article and couldn't help asking if this is real or someone's trick...and if someone tried to fake it, why and how.

Is it some sort of hailstones that were built layers of ice?

So I guess this huge ice ball was found in the middle of a forest by a couple who were picking mushrooms in Czech Republic.

It was surrounded by mud from the melting ice ball - but there were no tracks - footprints or any other indication of how it had been put there.

Meteorologists rejected suggestions that the huge ball of ice could have fallen from the sky and not broken up - leaving everyone puzzled as to how it got there.

In the meantime the ice ball has attracted UFO watchers and curious locals, and sparked heated debate on how it had ended up in the remote location.

Local farmer Mirek Burzynski said: "It would have weighed tonnes - how it was moved here without a lorry is a mystery. There was certainly nothing like a helicopter here lately - we would have noticed."

Well, I recall a book called "Book of the Damned" where people had made claims which seemed somewhat "Far fetched" in one instance, it was said at one time "Hailstones the size of elephants came down from the skies"

So, I don't disbelieve that this "Could" have done so. I have heard of things and seen some that defy conventional explainations.

Very strange indeed Nan. What are your thoughts Nan?

I'm thinking from the sky, or from an aeroplane when they dump stuff or somebody made it

I'm thinking airplane toilets.  They fly so high you might not notice them up there, and I'm sure it's awfully cold up there as well.  Maybe there will be a follow-up article and we'll all know what it was.  Can't tell by the picture the size of the ice-ball.

        does look like an igloo...

i think someone made it.  when i went to the Allagash many years ago, in the middle of the summer we went on a hike and found these ice caves that were full of snow.  We had to go down on own bellies and crawl in to get in there, and it was real scary, but once in, we pulled out a ton of snow and ice just like that, right in the middle of a very desolate area.

The Allagash is a wilderness waterway for canoeing and kayaks.  You cannot drive in beyond a certain area.  So if someone saw the snow we left there they would have thought the same thing because you cannot see the caves unless you know they are there, and
there was no way to come and dump the snow in there because you cannot drive in... so I can see this happening, because it happened to us.

It really felt good too ice cold snow on a 90 something degree day after hiking...weird, but good.
