  • Hi LCB'ers,

Each family has there own tradition when it comes to opening Christmas presents. There are families at the stroke of midnight  on Christmas eve, making a mad dash to the tree and ravish the presents. While others attend midnight mass, when returning home seen that Santa came!

Growing up in my house it was always tradition to open presents on Christmas morning. Under the tree would be a display of toys that Santa had dropped off while we were all nestled in our beds fast asleep.

Then came time to open presents from mom and dad. My parents always wanted this time to linger and last. One by one we would go around the room opening presents. There was always that one special present that had to be opened last! This was the grand finale!!

Oh how i remember hardly able to sleep Christmas eve! So afraid i would be, that Santa would not come to our house because i would still be awake. I would close my eyes so tight to try to fall fast asleep.

Christmas cookies and hot chocolate were always left for Santa. I would run to the table where i left them to make sure Santa gobbled them up. One year Santa forgot and i was devastated!!!

What is your tradition in opening presents?

  • Ours was 2 presents Christmas Eve, usually our Christmas pajamas
and a toy present..how did they know.. we never knew lol
Christmas was in the morning.. always around 6 am!
I remember we couldn't wait, jumping up and down in the hallway
so excited waiting for Dad to get up!

I remember one Christmas we were so stupid and trying hard to get to sleep
we couldn't get our eyes closed, so like silly kids we thought if we put Vicks under our eyes they would close and we would sleep..loooooool..
We were up half the night screaming it hurt so bad..i'll never forget that..

    LMAO that is too funny!
  • OMG!!!!! UNDER UR EYES HUN, I GOT TEARY EYED JUST THINKIN ABOUT IT!

Since my parents were divorced, my "tradition" changed every other year.
At mom's house I can remember EVERY YEAR my two brothers and I would beg and beg AND BEG to be able to open our gifts.  Then we would say how about 5, 4, 3, 2 and it seemed like hours later and mom always agreed on ONE!!  We shoulda just started with ONE!!  Then Christams Day we whoever woke up first woke the others and we would run to the tree in hopes of at least being able to shake a gift, but mom was ALWAYS already there!  lol

My dads was a different story, there were FIVE kids at his house including us.  We opened our gifts Christmas Day and they ALL were from Santa!!! lol

But Christams Eve was ALWAYS a HUGE family party at one of my Aunt's or Uncle's house.  There were SO many kids, I have 18 cousins.  We all wanted to be Santa's helper and I NEVER was.  After the gifts were passed out, we would just DIG IN!!!  We would play for hours.  I remember begging to play "Stratego" with my older brother and my cousin Greg.  They NEVER let me play.  The "adults" would all be playing "31" (of course for money) and DRINKING!!!!!  What GREAT MEMORIES!!!!
  • Shell did you say 31???? Omg.........my parents played the same thing! Did you ever jar a forgotten memory! Never new anyone outside the family that ever played that. Those were the days my friend.............
