    something wrong with my roomate's laptop keypad, she asked me to fix it, but I didn't know how, maybe you guys can help her out.
    the problem:  you can use the keypad to move the arrow anywhere, but when you want to click on something (tap on the keypad), it didn't work.  She would have to use the button for clicking. 
    suggestion please

    Did she try using an USB mouse? If yes, did that one work? Depending on the operating system that she has installed it might be worth having a look in the system preferences/control panel and see if the touchpad settings are correct and the drivers installed.

    no, she did not try using an USB mouse.  Her laptop is Acer and operate with Window Vista.  I also have Window Vista on my laptop, but I do not know how to check if the touch pad work properly.  Where do you go from the control panel? mouse or keyboard?

    I just looked it up and this is what I found:

    If the mouse/touchpad is not working, ensure that it is turned on. Press and hold the blue "Fn" key located in the lower left hand corner of the keyboard. and tap the "F7" key one time.

    A message  should flash across the bottom center of the screen stating "touchpad enabled".

    Let us know if it helps.

    blue, I tried your method, but it didnt work, there's no message or nothing appear.

    I uninstalled her Synaptic pointing divide and downloaded the new one and it works now.
