  • Along the highway driving home one day i saw a billboard that read "Do one thing a day that scares you". At first i thought that was a very strange thing to suggest and also could be dangerous if the wrong type of person reads it.

But it did get me to thinking about what i would do that would be super scary to me. The first thing that came to my mind was my fear of mice! Maybe if i challenged it head on i could overcome it and suddenly i saw the good in this billboard.

It would take a lot of willpower but maybe i would be willing to spend the night in a room with a mouse running around and by the morning i would conquer that fear.

What scares you that you might be willing to do?

  • I won't do anything involving mice, rats, maggots and such creatures. Not sure if it's a fear but if it is I guess it's there for a reason smiley

On the other hand I did have some sort of a challenge this weekend, went for a 300 km bicycle ride in two days. I was kind of afraid I wouldn't make it to the finish since it involved reaching 1000 meters of altitude in the mountains. But I did it smiley

  • Glad to hear that! Johnny Karp ..Probably because I, too like bicycle ride but i have not gone for such great Challenge  woo You Did it

  • It depends on who's reading the message. For me, it means to do as much as possible, to use my opportunities so I don't have any regrets. I understand that as doing something that would put me out of my comfort zone and challenge me.

But talking strictly about fears... well, I had many weird nightmares that kept repeating during my childhood and I thought I would never be able to live alone. Now I do live alone but when I turn the lights off, I look around to check if all is clear so I can fall asleep.

  • I have a fear of water. When I was a young boy we lived near a river and all the local kids would go swimming in it. I jumped in and almost drowned. I won't go in water above my waist and that is still challenging for me to do.

  • Hmm, I have already done quite a few big scary things in my life. I'm with Johnny on avoiding maggots OMG no! If I had to do something everyday it would be small things that make me uncomfortable like going to a movie alone or taking a highway I'm unfamiliar with. No maggots or spiders though, sorry.

  • Maybe i am going for that extreme fear eh?

elevator - I hope you can overcome your fear of the water because you are missing out on a lot of good times!

Mark - I think you might be right in the interpretation. Pushing ourselves to the next level can never be a bad thing.

Congrats Johnny and froggy put the foot on the gas and head for the highway guuurrrrrrrrrrrl!

  • I'm with you on the water thing elevatorflr11.  When I was 7 I was in the school pool and I lost my footing and went under.  I hit my head on the bottom several times trying to get out and that fear has never left me.  I have been swimming many times but I still get that tightness in my chest where I tense up.  I've not been swimming for donkeys years now and perhaps it's time to face that fear again.....

  • Ok, I have a fear of worms.  I know they are harmless but I find them revolting.  I never did as a child, I could bait a hook with no problems.  I think it stared because the yard we used to live in had giant nightcrawlers that would come out after a rain and we would collect them to sale.  Somewhere along the line it turned into a fear.  Not really sure why.
