  • I have had my chin Milo for 2 years or so and I could not ask for a better pet. Personally they look to me like a cross between a mouse/rabbit/squirrel with unique qualities of each in appearance at least. He is very intelligent, hilarious at times and has an incredible ability to map out his surroundings and literally ricochet off the walls ( or anything else in his path ) while he is runnings and jumping during playtime. He is the closest pet to a dog that I can have in my condo that ACTUALLY BARKS!!!He is an awesome pet

I am hoping we have some "Chin" owners on LCB that would like to share anything about their Chinchillas. I was serious when I said he "barks"

  • I've seen chinchillas in the pet shops but never even considered having one as a pet. Can you handle them?

Can your chinchilla tap dance?  Check this out here.  Very cute.

    blue

  • I use to own one for several years.  He loved his clay bath and raisins.  And mine would also bark at the cats. laugh_out_loud

  • hahahah that is funny blue

Did he ever take him on like this?

  • I never owned a chinchy, i seen them and always thought how cute they are, i didn't klnow they bark,i bet you that is so cute, peopleare probably confused wondering where to bark comes from, i'd never guessed.. lol.. i did own a ferret his name was buddy.. many years back i worked as an on-site maid here in Vegas which is a transient type town, people come quickly and leave quickly, as i was cleaning one of the hotel apartments in the distance i see this little tiny fur ball bouncing over the grass, i went over to see what the heck it was never seeing anything like him, he came right to me and started swirlin' round my feet, pick him up took him home later found out he was a baby ferret through others.. had him a few years, he went everywhere with me, if he even got an inklling i was leaving anywhere he grabbed his tiny stuffed elephant toy and waited patiently by the door, also he loved to go out and get the morning paper.. was that ever a sight, him coming up backwards towards the door tugging that newspaper, the sunday paper was really a job for him, i'd see him looking back at me like "help" lol, all in all he was so sweet with an amazing disposition, smart too the bestest friend i ever had..

  • Like imagin I have never had a chinchilla, but I have owned ferrets (shhhhhh their not legal in California) and I think they are part of the same family as chins....and she is right... they are great pets! Wonderful pet in a big truck driving long haul... so friendly! We used to call them our long wheelbase rats!

    katt

  • That's amazing imagin, My chin has had a small stuffed penguin since I got him and carries him around the cage.  I gave him a small bear a couple of months ago to see if he would take to that but apparently he did not as every morning I would look in his cage and the bear would be face down in the water dish. The first morning I thought it was an accident but after it kept happening day after day it was obvious they did not get along lol

  • I owned 2 chins years ago, they were great pets and so soft.
Did you know that as a defense against being attack by prey, when grabbed  they let go of thier fur. Strange ugh!

    gl all,
    imakin1

  • Really imakin1?  I assume you mean when grabbed violently? I have never heard that.  I had a leopard Gecko once and their tails look like big Grubs and when attacked near the tail they can actually detach it and let it go as a defense mechanism.  I read they can grow them back as well.
