  • There are so many pictures out there and stories about the rings given to celebrities. The latest was the ring given to a woman on a reality show called "The Bachelorette".

Now, whether you're a man or woman does the ring matter? Some see it as nothing more than a symbol of love and the ring should not matter under any circumstances. Not that it has to be some ridiculously priced bobble but it has to be pretty or something I like to wear, right? This doesn't only apply to engagement or wedding rings but jewelry in general.

In no way would I ever tell him I didn't like it. I could never hurt someone like that but I may find excuses not to wear those ugly earring he gave me last Christmas.

Would you openly admit not liking a ring etc. to your partner? Or are you currently wearing something that your partner gave you that you don't like?

  • I really don't like any kind of jewelry and everyone knows that, I tell it openly. So, I don't really get jewelry from anyone. Regarding a wedding rings, hmm... I would wear it during my wedding and I would take it off afterwards ... gladly.

  • I know a lot of guys like that Markotik. Some of them like to take off their rings for other reasons like a night out at the club  laugh_out_loud

  • I would never let on that I didn't like huge gold earrings or an ugly ring  - I just would try not to wear them.  If questioned, I would say that I'm saving them for a really special occasion.  I would hate to hurt his feelings.

I guess the ring does matter to a degree.

    blue

  • I am right with you on that one blue. I love jewelry and when someone gives you a gift whether it is jewelry or any other type of gift i could never ever say i don't like it. The way i see it is if someone goes out of their way to offer such a kind and thoughtful gesture that can sometimes hold more beauty than the gift itself.

  • Me and my wife decided we don't need rings or pieces of paper. We have been living together for years and we don't need a ring or a document to say that we're together.

As for presents, we are pretty open when we don't like a gift. For instance, I bought her a blouse and since I don't know much about clothes, she didn't like it. She never wore it but I don't mind, the ironic smile on her face when she first saw it was enough for me smiley

That's a really nice arrangement you two have and I also think that there's no need for a ring or a documents.
  • I like the rings. It says to each other "I'm proud to declare you're MINE" and it's a nice easy way to let others know 'I'm off the market". If you don't like gaudy rings, discuss long before the question being popped what you do or don't like. I have. I personally can't stand gold. Platinum all the way baby lol, but for economics I'd settle for titanium. I don't think everyone needs the paper or rings or documents, but for me, I'd like the wedding to share my decision to a life-long commitment with my friends. the paper makes tax issues and wills easier, and the ring serves not only as a warning flag to others, but tells my partner I'm bound in more than just the legal ways

  • I like the warning flag aspect laugh_out_loud I would be offended if my husband didn't want to wear his ring. Why not? I could see if you're working in a job that could scratch it all up but other than that you better wear it. hehehe

I can appreciate what you're saying Johnny. I liked the idea of "celebrating" that with family and friends but I agree that you dont need a piece of paper to show you love someone; however it does make combining your finances etc much easier.
  •           Those are valid points on either side;  as for me.... well I've been married now for a few years and my wife would've whupt (real word in the south ya'll)  my ass good if I didn't get her a ring.  'Sides it's tradition y'know.  I have one too.  In America as I'm sure most of the world we're real big on tradition.    ( Also  an occasional ass whuppin' when deemed appropriate) laugh_out_loud

That's why titanium is so wonderful; scratch resistant, whereas gold is so soft
  •           I've been reminded of that dtsweet on more than one occasion. (Wearing it, that is)

  • The rings do have significant meaning...."we belong together."  But, diamonds, hence diamond rings, are PRICE FIXED by the diamond cartels.

Don't believe me?  Buy a $3000 diamond engagement ring and try to sell it.  Try.  You will be lucky to get $100.

  • however it does make combining your finances etc much easier.

Haven't had any major problems so far, except once when we tried to take a bank loan together and one of the banks in the city required us to be married. That was solved quickly though, as other banks accepted us without being married. I guess bureaucrats will be more and more open to this kind of arrangement in the future.
  • well i was given a butt ugly ring by my ex and was more then happy to give it back when we split(to this day i never told him what i really thought lmao laugh_out_loud

  • LOL that's too funny rena.

  • Diamond rings are a rip off....read this article about what a waste of money diamond rings are!

  • I know the diamond business is controversial. They are not nearly as beautiful as other natural gems. Finding a fairly clean emerald or ruby would be worth more than the cost of a diamond any day.

I had no idea that De Beers was responsible for the diamond engagement ring tradition. Kinda ruins the whole idea.

  • Lovely ladies you know the ring matters without question. Give a lady a small diamond and they are not happy campers. All that matters is love is hogwash and goes down the drain with the chip of a diamond. A guy has to max his cc to put a ring on her finger and keep her happy.

  • Single Ladies [Put A Ring On It]

    hehehe
