  • Hi Guys and Dolls,

I have a great big peach tree in my yard and every other year it produces a ton of juicy peaches. This year was the off and didn't produce as many.

Last year i made peach pie, peach cobbler, peach muffins and even a jalapeno and peach salsa and of course peach cocktails!

This bowl is about all i could really savage tween the squirrels and the entire neighborhood knocking at my door and asking for them.

I don't like to say no but how do you politely tell someone that "NO you can't take my peaches"!

Yesterday i had 5 kids and 3 moms walk by and ask me if they could have some peaches that's why they all had to be plucked!

Do you think it's rude to tell them no?

    Lips

  • Nope. Just say no. That pic is too funny  laugh_out_loud

  •           Give 'em a peach pit and tell them to plant their own tree.  Just kidding; seriously,  I 'd tell them you had promised them to relatives, friends, etc.  Also,  they really should stay off your property unless you invited them.

  • If they're brave enough to beg, I'd be brave enough to say 'NO'! Just kiddin. I'd tell them yeah but only one ( I doubt I would have the heart to even tell em that).
    Btw, is that you, Lips??

  • Ok i know it aint the greatest pic but it's hard labor on a ladder picking peaches!

Someone already said i look like a point guard at a basketball game........ shocked
  • Girl, you are lovely, even when posing on a ladder! Don't see no lipstick tho  :'X

  • Lips if you had let all those kids and moms have one peach each it would have taken the little you have left! At least they asked and did not just snatch them... but you were probably most kind when you had to say no... so, no harm, no foul.

Now about that picture! If that is how you look after doing hard labor, you must be incredible when you are relaxed!

  • Lips, love the pic!! Maybe a sign posted...peach lover lives here...take at risk of bodily harm!!LOL

  • I don't think it's mean to say no to people asking for your peaches Lips but at least they had the decency to ask.  Put a sign up "please don't ask for free peaches as a refusal often offends".  That might stop them asking in the first place. laugh_out_loud

  • Hold your ground there Lips, them peaches are yours! smiley Loved the pic btw wink

  • Looool, that was a greeeeeat pic, Lips! Btw, I know how you feel, I wouldn't be able to say no to a kid who wants a fresh peach off the tree. But you could prevent them from asking if you pick the peaches regularly, so by the time they ask, there will have been nothing left on the tree. cheesy

  • Well they are all baked into pies, cobblers and peach crisps. I always try to save a pie and put in the freezer for Thanksgiving and it tastes as good as the day i baked it!

Thanks for all your great suggestions. Next summer should be a bumper crop so i best be prepared for all the peach snatchers!

  • You're such a little cutie Lips smiley

My hubby & I are HUGE canners, meaning, we use a canner/pressure cooker to can a great deal of food from our garden & fruit tree orchard each year as well as growing our own beef.  We believe in self-sustaining ourselves best we can especially given where the state of our economy and country is heading.  Anyhow, my hubby LOVES peaches and in our part of the country, are just not that easy to grow which is why our orchard does not have any (just apples, pears, plums & cherries).  We have a local orchard that we pick our peaches from annually so that we can put them up by canning and freezing.  Last year, I alone, picked 140 lbs of peaches in one afternoon just so my hubby could have his peaches for the year!!

This year we only picked about 100 lbs since we had some left over from last year but I decided to try something new this year and made some cooked peach jam and boy was it ever tasty!!  Have you tried that yet?  It is so easy to do, after you cook it and get it into the jars, you only need to waterbath for 15 minutes and the jam will last quite awhile.  It is also quite yummy on icecream. I also bake pies throughout the year from the peaches that we have frozen and it is such a treat in the middle of the Winter!  I envy you for having your very own peach tree...and I am sorry to admit that I would be one of your pesky neighbors asking if I could come over and visit your tree...and "pet the peaches"  wink

Maybe make a sign..."Beware of gun toting peach tree owner"....nah.....that's not you tho, you are much too nice for that!  Me however....would be more than happy to have a sign like that because I AM a gun-toting lady and proud of it!

  • Mmm i love fresh fruit in my yogurt and some granola too. We have a little cafe that serves the most awesome yogurt parfait.

Why i didn't think of using those darn peaches in my yogurt!

    Lips

  • I wouldn't like anyone picking my fruit/veggies without asking.
    Grrrrr.....

    Adorable photo Lips. smiley

  • Suny you always crack me up! Perfect analogy now if only my peach tree could talk!

May come Halloween when i get the whole neighborhood knocking on the door i can say its a haunted tree and has peaches that when eaten will turn you into a black spider!
  • Well with your cleverness suny i am sure you will do quite well for yourself. Wish you the best in success.

Ya know, you mention spider and I have to just say that I say the most humongous spider I have ever seen in real life in the kitchen two nights ago. I mean this thing was huge. It came from the ceiling down the cabinet and the wall like King Kong climbing down a building. OMG! I was screaming my head off.
  • Thats a cute pic Lips. Ah give them a peach. What could it hurt.  smiley
