  • Dramatic pictures have been released of US President Barack Obama watching live footage of the operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

Omg look at Hilary face in complete horror....

This is them on the White House lawn afterwards.........

  • lips...i know this is meant to be funny. some who have lost friends or family in this or any war may find this not so funny.  i know you are a sensitive person by your posts.  i am going to go out on a limb and predict this post will receive many negative reviews.  perhaps i am wrong.

  • It is in pure fun and the 2nd pic is in celebration of snuffing Bin Laden nothing more. Please don't read anything more into to then it is. It's light humor in celebrating this victorious event in history.

If anyone is offended it's not my intention what so ever. No one has a greater empathy then i do for the families who lost loved ones.

  • I don't know why but I liked seeing Obama in the little chair, off to the side.  Makes him seem more like a team player. (Those who have read my other posts about his ratings will understand what I'm sayin').

  • I think a bit of humor in the most dire of situations makes most feel a little less heavy hearted.  Of course I don't speak for everyone. I knew you meant no offense to anyone, Lips. smiley

  • Thank you for seeing it for what it was gabby. The US were celebrating in the streets. It has been a long time coming and long over due. It is definitely a victory and those who did lose loved ones find a sense of relief.

On another note i can't imagine watching that live as it went down. That had to be the most intense moments of a live feed that anyone could of ever watched.

    Lips
  • so if you didn't know which person in that room was the President, would you think it was the small black man sitting to the side?

  • Welcome smiley

Did they have a live feed so they could see the shoot out AS it was happening?  I had no idea about that.

I don't know how many, if any, were killed along with Osama.  I'm just very thankful no US military were harmed.

It's too bad the person who actually killed him can't come forward to say... It was me... It was me.... since he's in the Special Ops and can't reveal his identity.

  • does he get the reward money?

  • so if you didn't know which person in that room was the President, would you think it was the small black man sitting to the side?

No, I would think it was the man in front, in the biggest chair.
  • I'm not sure what to think. How can anybody celebrate the death of someone, enemy or not. I'm so torn by all of this. I'm watching the news, people celebrating and all those comments. I do not belong to any religion, but my heart tells me that something is wrong. I thought we are better than the fanatics but we are acting the same.

Sorry Lips, I know from your posts that you have no bad bone in your body and hopefully you will not take this the wrong way.

  • does he get the reward money?

I heard some chatter about the reward money.  Who would get it?  The person who figured out the call came from the compound?  The person who made the call?  The President since he's Commander and Chief of the Military?  Head of military?  Person who drew up the mission?  Person who killed him?

Don't they usually say 'Person who leads to the arrest and conviciton'.  If so, It would be the 'friend' who accidently lead the US to him.
  • The GITMO detainees who gave us the information are probably the most likely as they provided the key information that led to his demise.  The reward money is for "information leading directly to the apprehension or conviction".  I'd say he was apprehended.  The 25 million is the max, and there is another 2 million from the airlines.

  • Yes, gabby the first photo is a real reaction of watching the live feed as it was happening! I can't even imagine the high stress in that room.

Laguna - I understand what you are saying and how could anyone celebrate the murder of another human being. I totally get you, trust me i do. But i don't think this is about the murder of a human being no matter how evil he is or how much blood is on his hands.

I think the celebration is a symbolic one. It's to pay homage to those that lost their lives and in the end after a long hard battle there was justice. It has spread to worldwide level that maybe just maybe we have snuffed out the biggest perpetrator and terrorism will subside.

It is the symbolism of peace for our future and justice not only in the US but all those who were victims from around the world.

  • Well damn.  I was writing what was, for once, a great post. Or so I thought.  Had to stop and help my daughter with, of all things, a college politcal exam.

Anyway.  I'll try again since my post disappeared.

I hear what you're saying Laguna.  I don't think we are reacting at all like the other countries who have celebrated our heartaches.  We, the US, have never killed a massive group of people or person, just for the hell of it.  We took down the person who set out to destroy this country and many are feeling justice.  We are releasing a bit of heartache, grief, fear, and panic he put in our hearts and minds. He planned killing because he hates us and that hate is deep rooted and won't go away.  Instructions were to 'take him down' since arresting him would have put our soldiers in much more danger.

I have questions too.  Hypothetically, if someone murdered my entire family, neighbors and friends, I would go to jail if I found him and killed him.  We don't have the right to seeking the ultimate justice even though who we are hunting may be a threat to many, just on a smaller scale.

  • Oh My,  I didn't realize it was a live feed.  I can't imagine what it would have been like to see that live.  Holding your breath praying our troops would be successful without being harmed and seeing someone being shot, live, I just dunno.

  • You did alright lips your intentions were good. Justice was served and its like pepto bismol, pop pop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is. Stepping up security and the threat of another attack is the worry we have to stress with now.

  • helmet-cam.  Wonder how long before the "Hunt for Osama" video game comes out?

  • Ya know, sometimes in life there are critters who just need to be destroyed, for the good of everyone else.  Bin Laden was one of them.

And, after watching flaming people jumping from the towers that day in horrific attempts to end their pain/lives; after hearing the last messages some of those who died left for their loved ones *knowing* they were dying; after the loss of so many people that were just trying to help the ones who were suffering & dying; after seeing all the human loss that day, I have not one shred of any desire to "take the high road" when it comes to that man, and I don't understand anyone who does.

Yes, I thought Obama actually looked really human sitting there in the corner watching.  It was a tough decision to make, but he made it, and it was good.  I read that Bin Laden hid behind a woman during the gun fight.

  • Well said the high road don't apply to this scene.

  • For those feeling more patriotic today... you should give a listen to my bff's 9yr old niece singing. smiley

  • Osama totally deserved what was coming to him and that still isn't punishment enough for what he did. But I can't understand people celebrating the man's death, that seems barbaric to me. That has nothing to do with the photos Lips, I smiled when I saw the second one.

  • Lhasa - You could not have put it more beautiful then you did and i thank you for it.

Gabby -  i watched the video and oh my that little girl has a set of lungs. It gave me goose bumps! So appropriate to watch at this time. Thanks for sharing

Johnny - Again i don't think the celebration was to cheer the blood splattered on the floor or to cheer any morbid pictures that may come available. I don't see it as barbaric but rather it's symbolic value. Not only for the 3000+ people we lost but the justice it served on a worldwide level of innocent people who died at the man who orchestrated it.

The US true to their National Anthem "home of the brave" took care of business and did what needed to be done and it in essence effects the entire world. The celebration is one of pride of our Military that risks their lives to do it and a President who had the grit to have it carried out.

    Lips
  • For the people that suffered through 9/11 and watched people literally jump out of buildings, the death is closure. We know that this does not end terrorism but for a brief moment Bin Laden's death brings a sense of justice. That's something to celebrate.
