        I just made some fried green tomatoes.  I did the flour, eggs and then I dipped them in panko crumbs.  The panko gave them a great crunchy texture.  I know a lot of purists use corn meal,  but the panko gave them alittle something extra, IMO.  Of course, being from the south, I like everything fried.

        I'm from upstate NY, and we've always done ours in just plain flour.  I live in So Carolina now, and tried the cornmeal ones shortly after we moved here - did not like the cornmeal.  I have 2 green tomatoes in the fridge now, waiting to be fried.

        I fried yellow squash tonight, in egg wash & cracker meal - love that, too.  In fact, it's the only way I like yellow squash.  Ahhhhh, summer time, huh?

          Panko is larger, coarser bread crumbs, and it's all the rage right now.  I only like them for a few things.

          Green Tomatoes, when fried, have a tangy, greenish flavor that changes as the tomato gets riper.  I actually like some of mine just starting to turn pink, 'cus it's a whole different flavor.

          Down here in the south, they even serve them in fast food places & restaurants - I've never seen that anywhere else in the country.

          Oh, another one down here that's got some of my family members going is deep-fried, breaded Dill Pickles.  The thought of it just grosses me out so I won't even try them, but my sisters & Mom like them.

          I've never had fried green tomatoes, but I loved the movie. I don't usually eat fried food.

            The pickles are actually really good.  You would think the texture and taste would be off putting, but the are tasty.

            I don't even like ripe tomatoes.  I love growing them, though, because that's only way I can get green tomatoes.  Gardening is really a wonderful hobby.

            Down here you can get green tomatoes in the regular grocery stores, almost year round!!

            I'm unable to garden anymore 'cus of my COPD.  I have a HUGE yard, too, so it's really frustrating.
