.....to support her friend who has cancer.

Kamryn Renfro's friend lost her hair due to chemotherapy treatment and to support her friend, she shaved her head.  At this point the school banned the girl that shaved her head saying it was too distracting for the other students and wasn't part of the "dress code".

The school have since allowed the girl back to school after outrage from many followers of the story.

You can read the full story HERE.

How uncaring and thoughtless of the school.  >:(

Oh, it's very sad and discouraging that the school reacted in that way.

        I read about this too,

It is totally out of order what schools do, there was loads of similar things that happened too, that the school just taken the totally opposite approach on too.

It just makes me think sometimes - are these school teachers actually human, don't they have form of empathy, do they just care for the school rules and cant contemplate slipping for exceptional circumstances like this was, i mean i find what this girl did was very sweet, goes to show how friendship is very important even at these difficult times for people.

        Shame on the school.

Last time I checked America was a free country, aren't students allowed to have any haircut they want? This is beyond ridiculous.

Also the "home of the brave" and what that young girl did for her friend was very brave but the school couldn't see that.

Schools need to learn to pick their battles better. Picking on a little girl about her hair should not be on the top of the schools to do list. Very sad indeed.

It's funny - just looking at the topic title before entering the thread, I wondered what the school's position would be if a student went bald for a medical reason, like chemotherapy... Then I saw that this girl shaved her head out of solidarity for her sick friend and I felt truly sad for everyone involved: for the child battling a life-threatening illness, for the friend unjustly penalized due to her supportive gesture, for the school administrators that punished a student for doing something morally right.

In what has become an increasingly image-obsessed world, this move just shows that, all too often, people care more about a person's physical appearance than the content of her/his character. Even if the school reversed the initial decision, I suspect it was motivated more by the public backlash than a real change of heart over what the student did. Such an institution is clearly more interested in enforcing rules and instilling conformity in its pupils than in promoting principles like empathy and individuality.

I really think that they should sue the school and give the money to charity...
Or at least, I would organize a protest for everyone to shave their heads and go to school like that... They can't suspend the whole school... Idiots...
