Today is Labor Day in the US!

It is a day where those who work have the day off for all their hard labor! It also signifies the end of summer as Fall is just around the corner.

Enjoy your day off from work, relax, cook out and play at your favorite Casino today!

I am spending the rest of my day in the bed . school is out so no little ones to put on the bus. Ribs on the grill, with hot dogs and burgers cooked for me ,i am in heaven. I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

Is this essentially a holiday to celebrate WORK, in reality? I've heard of them having this in Japan too, sure seems like a strange concept to me ... but then we in the UK still have only our "bank holidays" as public holidays, which is just an odd a concept I think !

No it is not to celebrate rather to give the working class a well deserved day off. Compared to many other countries that get generous time off from their employer in the States we are not so fortunate.

After visiting the UK and learning new employees can get 3 weeks vacation time off in the first year i was floored because here it can take YEARS to build that kind of time off.

Number of days holiday is a common point of contention  during negotiation for a position of employment here in the UK, and most people expect 28 days plus all bank holidays as a minimum, I had no idea that was anything special compared to other countries? How many days holiday would you expect from a new employer?

Wow that is pretty fantastic days off. Typically i previously said a new position will get an employee one week's vacation and paid holidays average 8 per year. There are a few more holidays throughout the year but not all companies recognize them.

Thanks to all the forum members who wished us all in the united states a Happy Labor Day.  Also, to Inet Bet for the $5 gift and to amigo bingo for the generous $25 Labor Day gift.  I was a little disappointed with the usually generous casinos giving nothing to us loyal players.  I guess things are tough all over.
