  • I know I can't be the only one with something good to share, so please post your good news here also!

It was really bad, had been building for months.  My electric bill was three months behind.  Jake left to go make some money to pay it, but ended up spending it all, and I told him don't come home if you can't pay it.  My disconnect notice was sent July 8th, but I got an extension til the 27th.  I made plans to go to my daughter's that day, as I knew I wouldn't have the money.

Then I remembered a very short phone call I had made to the TX Workforce Commission a year or so ago, when trying to reset my online information.  They had mentioned something about the extended benefits.  I had received my last unemployment check in April of 2008.  So I got brave and called and said I was wondering why they had mentioned an extention, and was wondering if by some miracle I was eligible for one. And that I didn't figure I did.  They asked me a few questions, told me to hold on, and came back and said I was being recorded and to answer the next questions truthfully or face felony charges.  Had I worked since April 2008?:  Had I quit a job since April 2008?  Was I telling the truth?

Then OMG, she said "you are eligible for $289 a week, through December 2011!!!!!!  With that news I asked my sister if she could loan me the money for the electricity.  She did!!!  The jobs are still scarce, but now I can afford to pay my bills, and get caught up on my back taxes, and maybe even by December afford a car.

As a little extra good news, I got a call from a man at the HOW foundation, a place where men with alcohol and drug issues can live, get sober, and work doing tree trimming.  He said he had Jake there, who wanted to quit driniking, but wanted to make sure I didn't leave him and wouldn't sell the house.  Jake has tried a lot of times to quit the drinking, and it has never lasted.  So I don't have my hopes too high, but am glad he is trying and glad to know he isn't on the streets.

Who is next with some good news??? huh

  • Wow i love your story. I would of gotten so excited i know i would of got an instant migraine! Very happy for you chilly!! Ya got to love those kind of stories!

And as soon as good news comes my way i'll be glad to share it too!

ps i modified your title. I am pretty sure you meant to say I'll share "MY" story not i'll share your story if you share yours. Would i be right?

    Lips
  • yes, thanks!  And I was very excited.  I still am!

  • So pleased for your Chilly.  It must be a huge relief for you.

As for Jake, if he really wants to quit then he will.  I hope he does.

As for sharing good news, I've had a right few weeks of it after being involved in an accident. I got rear ended and both my friend and myself suffered whiplash.  I've been in a lot of pain for almost 4 weeks now but the insurance paid for me to see a physiotherapist and since I saw her on Friday, I do have a little relief from the pain.  That's my good news.

Looking forward to reading everyone's good news.

  • Chilly...
As I said this before but I will say again.
You are an incredibly strong woman and you make me proud to be your friend.
You never give up on hopes and always keep on moving forward.
Sometimes I feel that life is just too tough...constantly struggle to challenge and geez, how about one obstacle after another but I have also experienced how refreshing life can be...no matter how horribly I felt lost, somehow I found the way out...just like the old saying, 'Where There's Wil, There's Always A Way'...
Good luck to Jake and big hooray and cheers to you!

  • Chilly and Blue, glad to hear you you are both doing better...one financially and one physically!!! My good news is I can now use my bathroom???LOL  I got out out of the shower Sunday and flushed the toilet and I had a geyser erupting!!! OH NO!! The plumber came yesterday...after I flooded my laundry area after I tried to wash all the towels I used to clean up the previous mess.Well after they used a power snake for 2 hours my sewer pipe was free flowing again but OMG what a mess....gross!! The plumbers did clean it up tho and I'm back to normal...well maybe normal is not quite the right word LMAO!!

  • i dunno, but I don't see how informing someone with an addiction that 'you're still there and there's still a home' is a good thing...isn't it like saying, pass or fail, I'm still here for you, as opposed to, I'm NOT here for you, as you are today; I'm here for ME...but if you come out a better and wholer person we can talk then

  • Great news, Blue and Rosebud!  The clouds are full of silver linings.

dtsweet, I understand completely what you are saying.  I've already shown Jake the door and what I do with my house is really of no concern to him as it belongs to me, not us.  I did not get to talk to him.  All I said to the man who called was, well, I haven't left him,  (he left me, for about the 1200th time) and that I'm trying hard not to sell the house.  They can spin that answer however they want.  The man also asked if I wanted Jake to get sober.  I said of course.

Now, I wasn't lying, but neither was I saying there would be a welcome mat at the door.  Jake needs to get well for Jake.  I need to continue providing for myself and being responsible for my own actions.

I only had 4 minutes on the cell phone, so couldn't go into the "hell no I don't want to be around this drunk irresponsible ass any longer" speech.  I figured the best I could do for Jake, as his wife, was to ease his mind so that he could make the decision he needed to make.  Truly I realize that having him around, as is, will only hurt things for my life.  Being lonesome is not fun, but being homeless and hungry is worse!
