  • So a couple days ago, I ventured into my local food center, intent on buying some..food..(DUH!) and wandered around as I was trying to limit my purchase money (I have rent and land payment due) so getting the old "Most bang for the buck" theory was in play.

I don't dink milk (Lactose intolerant)  but do have creamer (Int Delight at $2.18 for 32 ounces buy 3)  and eggs and such. But my thrill was walking down the mix aisle (Pancakes! YUM!) and I got the Bisquick brand.

This nice employee said "Oh you like Pancakes?"

    I replied I did.

"Have you looked at then end of the aisle? There's a sale on Krusteze"

I think "Well, I don't have a favorite" so I go and check.

10 POUNDS of the stuff for only $2 more then what I am paying $4.96 for 3 lbs!!

Ohhh man! So in celebration I go and get a "Hero sub sandwich" ($3.98) from the deli section and then load up and go home.

That's why I like my shopping center..(WinCo) and the staff are helpful.

Yes, I had pancakes today..Well, sort of..Made three and had made such big ones, I have made a lunchtime snack also smiley

    Still celebrating!!
  • And one thing about pancakes is.. you can put so much in them...
fruit.. meats.. roll them up with butter, sprinkle sugar..
Another thing i tried was putting corn in the batter.. corn pancakes..
    it was pretty good!
Alot of things you can do with pancakes, and can fill you up!

  •     We have a local Kroger here where I live, and I'll tell you, when they have their 10 for 10 sale I load up on everything from Hotdog Buns, to Salad Dressings.
I can still get a gallon of Milk there for $1.88 every day too.
In this day and age it pays to watch sales and not assume the bigger chains like Walmart always have the best prices in town.

    By the way....Pancakes Rule....

  • Hi Gene,

I think Bisquick is the bomb when it comes to pancakes....sale or not i would have to stick with Bisquick. I just made pancakes the other nite for dinner and it was a nice treat from the typical dinner menu.

  • I do see your point, quality verses quality. But if Bisquick would make somethign as large, then I could see buying it.

My favorite thing ( I do this about only weekend) is to make 2 pancakes and in between (Besides the butter) is a couple of eggs and salt them and then the other pancake on top.

Then cut them up and drip syrup all over the mess...The only thing missing is sausage..Mmmmmmmm

I think this weekend I'll look for blackberries if they are on sale.

Years ago my younger sister got married to a Pakistani (Nice guy too) and he came to visit. The blackberries were in season (Big time) and I had not gotten out to cut them down. He begged me not till he was done. That guy picked 10+ lbs of blackberries and had blackberry syrup (Made by the Matriarch of course) for the rest of the week.

Plus he took a gallon of it home with him when they left.

It kills me cause this type of Syrup is VERY hard to find up here, though we have a lot of blackberries around!

  • My mouth is actually watering.........should i go in the kitchen and whip up pancakes?
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • I am an unrepentant Carnivore.

I make no excuses for this, top of the food chain is a good place to be.

That said a local store has this killer meat sale the first week of every month. 10 lb. packages of everyting from chicken to pork ribs to steaks.

    To give an example,
big 1 1/2" boneless pork ribs for $1.00 a pound.
    Sirloin steaks $1.50 a pound
    Chicken breasts $.79 a pound

I bought 30 pounds of the ribs, fired up the grill, filled a trash can full of budweiser and ice and started cooking in the courtyard of our apartment complex about three weeks ago. Soon had about 20 neighbors all kicking back, enjoying an impromptu barbecue, kids all playing volleyball, adults shooting the breze and enjoying a lazy summer day. set me back about $65...

and started a tradition. Every weekend now there is a big barbecue bash in the courtyard, folks are all coming out of the woodwork with their favorites, alcohol flowing free and through the week neighbors taking a couple minutes to shoot the breeze... Quite different from the reclusive little community I moved into 8 months ago.

  • Hiya Jimbo,

I love that kind of bbq! It has to be my favorite thing to do in the summer. Great food, great company....and the spirits flow! I'm sure since you moved in the whole complex has a new attitude! On top of being the smartest guy in the WHOLE wide world.....your good hearted too.

This i should of known by the codes you share with LCB! Let me know when the next bbq is....i bake the pies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lips,
At the risk of bordering on the risque,
I would love to taste your pies...
