  • Hi guys I just have to get this off my chest as it has upset me to no end.
I have been turned down for 4 different jobs since yesterday  :'( I am not feeling good about myself at all.

I really don't know what to do, every job I find on the job link website I apply for and I go out and put in my resume. When will it get better? I just spent 1 1/2 hours at the workforce center looking and applying to get me no where. I think I coughed up a lung sitting there as I just cant get over my sickness. Any words of advice would be so much appreciated. kiss kiss kiss Thanks Lcb'ers love ya all

  • Your not alone, im closing in on 2years without a job there is nothing out there sad

  • It has to get better soon, I hope and pray everyday smiley

  • Hope you get something soon. I know the right job will come along for you guys...have faith wink

The economy stinks..Alot of people are having trouble finding jobs.

I always have been self employed, even when I worked doing nails or at cirque du soliel...I was contracted out. So I wouldn't know anywhere to look for a job if I had to get one. I really would like to work, but day cares want too much money nowadays.

Anywhooooo...Giv you are still in school right? Soon enough you will be in a pharmacy...just be patient wink Love ya.

    :-*

  • givens it is true the right job will come along for you, keep hope and faith up, keep your patience, which i know thats hard.. and keep trying.. you will prevail

I remember on a job search i thought all hope was lost, just felt so down.. then suddenly i got 4 calls in one day, i had MY choice.. hehe

  • I second the above Givenz.  The economy is hit hard right now, you will find something soon.  Don't let these 4 places get you down, you have to remember that before they would get maybe 10-30 applicants for a position, then call back maybe 5 for an interview.  Now they are getting a hundred or more.  The right job for you will come along, keep your chin up.  Our area is one of the hardest hit unemployment wise, and I was downsized last year with a layoff of 1100 people, so I completely understand.

  • We are like 5.5million in the would country and there is about 200000 without work right now its crazy, and they keep telling us there is tons of jobs but where i wonder lol sad

  • I am retired u.s. military and own a small interior renovation construction company (all government related contracts), in the past year and a half i have gone from 6 full time employees and a pool of 9 part time employees (all active duty military) down to myself and two full time employees.  taxes for small businesses are absolutely ridiculous and the unemployment tax has gone through the roof.  Since the so called stimulus has been passed (and still only half the money has been spent...go figure) taxes have risen and business has decreased.  I will not and can not hire anybody until the government makes small business capitalism a strength and not a plague.  I have past employees that have been unemployed for 1 1/2 or more.  Currently the system is not set up for small businesses to succeed in any way shape or form.  We need to change policy to improve the economy and job situation.......we are still on the downslide and the only thing we have is more debt.

  • Hold your chin up given and don't let it get you down. I know it is easier said than done. Money is the necessary evil and life and can cause such terrible stress. I hope soon things will get brighter for you.

I hope your biz picks up too dabigdog. I know the small business are hard hit. There is needs to be more focus on the small biz people. This has been a long time coming. The big corporations have put all the small independent companies out of business.

It is so hard to compete against huge corporations that have means to advertise and cut prices and still make a profit. But i think people miss the small time business. There is more personal attention given to customers.

Hang in there guys.......it has to get better.

  • Hey Givennsz,

I don't have too much knowledge of the employment probs in the USA but it sounds as though things are pretty much the same as they are here in the UK.

Someone told me the other day that they had sent off over 140 resume's (C.V.'s over here) and only heard back from only 2 of them and they didn't get the job either.  It must be soul destroying and I certainly can understand how you must be feeling.

The right job is waiting in the wings for you somewhere!  So best of luck, don't let em grind you down and keep your head and spirits high.

  • I checked some of the temp agencies out here and there's not alot of $10 an hour jobs. Not may jobs even at min wage either.

Too much is not working, small business is being slowly strangled. But if you got into the "Male enhancement" stuff, you might do very well!!  tongue shocked tongue shocked

  • My advice would be: forget these brick-and-mortar jobs!

If you want to get things going, use your online access and go to places like

    www.odesk.com or

    www.getafreelancer.com

They have plenty of jobs that you can do online and with odesk you can even get health insurance and so on.

And don´t go for the cheap ones (data entry etc.). From what I see from your post (logical, structured, no misspellings) you should go for copy writing.

  • At the moment I've been out of work for 2 1/2 years, and now am wondering if I can (several obstacles).  But, I have one bit of advice for anyone.
Higher Education.  If there is a community college or university near you, go put in an application, take any tests you need, and keep checking in on their websites for openings.  Some of them have temp pools you can be in, and they often lead to full-time.  There are many different offices doing many different tasks.  Usually good pay and benefits.  If you haven't considered Higher Ed, you may want to give them a try.

  • The forum goes beyond free bonuses and helpful hints and im hooked. this just hit too close to home for me. I have also been out of work for quite some time and getting discouraged. Im in California and when I read the jobs in one of my fields, I can only apply for half cuz I dont speak spanish. then the ones that dont list spanish as a must, when I turn in resume it is something they r looking for. So i try to enjoy the time off, work on the side and know there is a reason Im not working. I know if i was working more and wouldnt b able to read everything on this forum.  Keep ur chin up, and think of it this way,u will be available and ready when the right job stumbles into ur life and not working at the wrong job and missing that moment. Thank u for starting this subject, ur not alone and thanks for all the support.

  • Obama promised us that IF Congress passed his $800 billion stimulus package unemployment wouldn't go higher than 8.5%.

It currently is 10%, not including those who have GIVEN UP looking.  And, we now are $15 TRILLION in debt.

Obama has done more damage to this Nation in one year than militant Isalamists have done in the last 25 years.

  • Thanks for the other side of the coin dabigdog.  I think that as we have been making things more efficent in all industries(thus eliminatng jobs in those industries) and charging more for the now cheaper to make end product we are in trouble.

I started working with computers at age 16, taught myself how to program in 2 languages and write databases..  The last programming job I had I was replaced by 3 people out of country(US).  Many jobs are moving out of country because it would be idiotic for employers not to move them.  I have heard of very good programmers moving to india and other places to get jobs and even with less(compared to us dollars) pay they had a higher standard of living.

Dont limit yourselvs to anything apply to everything!  I have done many different jobs(the most enjoyable being working at a carnival)  and have seen a former janiter at company earn his way to head of engineering(the people that were there when he was janitor still ask him to empty their thrash everytime he is in their offices as joke).  A foot in the door is the hardest part

  • I once spent 6 months getting callbacks on resumes saying that they may have a position opening up soon, were interested, but I was overqualified for position applied for and they needed someone that would stay at less qualified position!!

That really sucked, finally someone hired me for secritary position and had me write inventory database that landed me an nice position somewhere else..

  • One thing that helps in the long run:  Start your own business.  10 years ago I was a family therapist in a larage group/practice.  I was working my tail off to basically keep the practice afloat and bring home a so-so wage.  I then started my own business, three actually.  The first 2-3 was very, very hard and I was broke beyond belief.  I kept second guessing my decision to leave a boring, but regularlly paying, job.  But, 10 years later I can say it is the BEST decision I ever made.  More time, more money, more flexibility and the satisfaction I am not working my butt off to make SOMEONE ELSE rich!

  • AMEN TO THAT!!  all of us business owners need to keep the socialist agenda of the current administration in the trash where it belongs..pay YOUR freaking bills...not the neighbors........no more debt....no more lies and left wing spin!!!  WE WANT THE TRUTH (and what about transparency??)
