Just how stupid am I...

The other day I thought it was time to cut/ donate my hair which I have been doing for a long time...
I clearly told the person who was such a non stop talker and I thought she was a very friendly  person,that I wanted to cut 18 inch. to donate.
I would have paid attention to her cutting my hair but my mind was set up more on my monkey with my daughter in the waiting area until I realized this woman cut off about 29 inches...

                 

I was horribly shocked at the moment and didn't know what to think or say...she said that she made a mistake, blah blah....ended up paying and left.
I know that hair will grow eventually and what would have been the point to get angry since what's done is done but I was upset of the fact that I didn't say not even one word to show how upset I was...
sometimes I feel so stupid not verbalizing and expressing how my feelings are thinking it's always better keeping those feeling to myself.

Have you had any similar experience(s)?

well, for one, i wouldnt have paid lol...but the thought to donate it was very kind

I don't think you're *unwise* at all.

Truth is hair has become big business.  Old hair instead of being thrown away it is recycled into "weavable" hair and is often sold for hundreds of dollars.  It could *or could not be* an accident your beautician cut too much.

In the meantime, are you "wig friendly" perhaps? 

Sometimes i have to remind those around me that it does everyone involved much better to be more assertive to people in our routines..

by the way i happen to like having to shave my head constantly to keep it closer to the bald areas

If this would happend to me i wouldnt pay --i had sometimes a bad feeling after cutting my hair--most of time they cut it too much --i dont know why , but it is fact

Oh Nan! I am so sorry that happened to your wonderful hair... I have to agree with the others I would not have paid her... her entire job is to cater to her clients. Listen to what they say and want and then provide that service. She clearly did not do her job, and I don't know about you, but I have never been paid for NOT doing my job.

That said, I can fully understand your hesitation to get into a confrontation over this. Everybody has to pick their battles and I know when you need to take on someone and it is most important to you, that you will not only pick that battle, but win it.

Please don't doubt yourself... you are a wonderful, caring, and genuinely sweet person... don't give that away to anyone in the wrong battle.

That is just one girl's opinion.

Cutting almost 11 inches over the requested amount is not a "mistake" in my mind Nan, it sounds more like intentional.  Do you think she did it deliberately to get more cash for your beautiful hair?

You're not stupid Nan - not in any shape or form and if anyone thinks that you are stupid, they are very much mistaken. You were probably in shock at the time hence thats why you didn't complain.  Perhaps you should go back and complain and tell them they lost you as a customer.

It is a very generous gesture to give your hair away like that and the only comfort you can gain from this "mistake" is that you have helped people who have that balding disease, or someone who has cancer who has lost their hair after receiving chemotherapy.

I agree with Pacer, I don't think it was an accident. I recently watched a documentary about the hair business and there's a lot of money involved.

I've never heard of them charging the patron for a hair cut when the hair is being donated.  I'd write a very thorough and thoughtful letter to the headquarters or owners, depending on the type of shop, expressing my anger and other thoughts about the whole incident. 

when you have your kids in tow, and are in public, it is probably a good thing not to try to resolve the issue verbally with the perpetrator of the bad deed.  So, no, not stupid at all. 

Holy Crap.. How long was your hair and how short is it now?

I HATE when sylists can't follow simple instructions.

I have bangs and went in for a bang trim 2 weeks ago.  I was specific... I am picky about my bangs, want them straight across, no spikiness, texturize them and have them to my eyebrows.  I specifically said nothing is worse on an adult than kindgergarten bangs in the middle of a forehead.

Where did she cut them?  In the middle of my forehead. There is nothing you can do but look like a dork until they grow out. 

Nan, as I have said before I am so sorry about your hair... but, I have to tell you that the "new look" that you are stuck with makes you look beautiful and closer to your daughter's age than before! Stuff happens for a reason... you're gorgeous and so young looking!

Yesterday I got all of my thick red hair cut off (my choice) and am working on getting used to it... if it makes me look half as young and beautiful as you I am a WINNER!

I have never had or worn a wig before and I never knew you could sell hair...
The only reason why I started donating is that I lost my best friend from breast cancer and It was so heart wrenching to see what she was going through especially losing her beautiful hair...it's just a tiny gesture of remembering her and hoping to be a little help for others who might be in the similar situation...I feel too embarrassed to even mention this since it's really nothing much.
I was not whole truthful with my first post why I felt really stupid...not only I paid but even gave her tips...instead of pointing out what she have done to my hair and complain, I actually rewarded her for her mistake...
I solely blame on my grandmother and mother to influencing me to walk away from wrongs instead of fight and deal with...that's the real winner(?) according to them but the strange thing is that as much as I disagree with their theories of facing things I often find myself unconsciously following them and what's worst I have been pushing the same ways of handling things/situations to my daughter...
I guess at some sense, it's same as what Katt said...it's always the best to pick the right battle...

As I read your post, the first thing came on my mind was that no matter what or how you do with your hair or any changes to your body, you are and will always be my precious Katt...now that makes me understand what you were saying...you were telling me the very same thing.heh heh.

I feel your pain...having long hair myself I would absolutely die if someone cut it all off. Yes it grows back but it takes years not days and you just don't feel like yourself anymore. I definately wouldn't have paid and maybe even sued them. BUT for the record you look soooo much better with the new haircut, as someone mentioned above you do look years younger and your hair has alot of shine and bounce to it now!!!

I also prefer the short hair cut on your Nan.  You look even more beautiful and younger too.

Next time though, don't give her a tip, don't pay her and definitely complain.

I absolutely love the new look. It wasn't right what she done but it paid off  I'm guessing the youngen is one of your monkeys? She is just as beautiful!

I almost got jealous over the 29 inches but quickly realized wrong part of the body but old age can do that to a persons mind.  Since I am down to only 3 hairs left due to stress and old age I am a little light on doing a donation.  Let me be truthful here.  Wnanhee, u r stunning with long or short hair.
