  • i did once in mesquite there is a guy there who is a willie nelson look a like and he is most of the time there.  i mean he could be willies twin brother but i knew the difference i had read up on him in the st. george chronical and my dad warned me.  He sat down beside me dirty and unkempt and broke we laughed and talked and he hit me up for some cash i had been playing all day and was down to my last 20 dollar bill he asked for a loan and soft hearted me split it down the middle with him.  Which as i found out later he does this alot.  It was okay though cuz my dads karma share and good will come out of it did.  I won 500 and went home happy.  But i must say after that i stayed as far away as i could.  Now if someone  sits down with a sob story i give them one of my own and believe me mine are truthful and my pride is large but i have had much sorrow in my life and i will tell it to get a moocher off my back

  • spazz, i beleive you and hear you on that.. "do good things, and good will come to you".. but for this i say to myself.. is it a good thing that i am supporting this man or womans gambling habit/drinking problem giving this person still another chance in life to not get a job and straighten out thier own lives, i suppose it is just to easy for them to ask and get, if more people say no as you are going to do it is a better choice, it is actually in the long run better, don't feel bad spazz. What they do they are very good at, as you know and can tell they been doing it a long time, and it is not good. Time to make a change, for yourself and for them. Take care of you spazz.

    Come on everyone!!!

  • I was at Harrahs Casino, this was years ago, Quarter mania was the machine i was sitting at, i play them every now and then. My father got me playing them, he hit the mega in Laughlin Nevada. They were on their way out when my mother wanted to use the restroom, so he sat down and played from a bucket of quarters he had. My mother said when she walked out the restroom my father was white as a ghost as if he was going to pass out, staring at a machine, speechless with an upwards of, if i can recall around 250,000 win... give or take some. This is another story in itself.

Back to mine, i sat down and stuck a 20 in a Quartermania, the machine was hot, i kept hitting the money bags symbols, and lining up wins, keeping my money even and above, played maybe about half hour, during my time there i kept hitting all but one just off to the top or to the bottom, but slowly staggered off and money started getting low. I wanted to play my regular little penny bonus machines, so i cash-out and tapped the guy next to me, told him.. "this machine is hot, it gets really close, try this one" he replied "i seen it is, i'll take your advice" so he does move over as soon as i leave. Before i sit down at my penny machines i wanted to goto the ATM for a little extra cash, i know even though it says penny it doesn't mean penny lol.. I get to the ATM there was a short line, waited a few and soon was my turn, got the withdrawl and i was off.

As i walked back that way... there was a crowd of people and bells sounding around where i was sitting at the mania machines, as i got closer it was right in front of the machine i was at. Yup.. he hit it!!!!! I walked up and told him, Nice win!!! (i was actually as happy as he was). That man got up gave me the biggest hug, he was pointing at me to everyone saying "if it wasn't for her" lots of excitement going on. I finally left went on to play my machine, even though i didn't hit it i still felt good. As i was sitting there about 45 minutes, maybe an hour later, the man came up and handed me 500.00 and a very beautiful clock from the gift shop. On the clock he had written a little note.. "Timing is everything, Thank you"

This is another note in time i will never forget. Good thing i didn't leave laugh_out_loud

  • Whew!! For a minute there I was having flashbacks. Taking guesses at the ending wondered if the guy was actually a cynic, liked the game he was on and didn't want to move from  his warm seat. You went to the atm  hustled to your machine,  but you weren't fast enough so you went back to the machine which was still empty, put $5 bucks in hit the max button and hit the jackpot..and in order to get the guy on your side you hand him some greenbacks and dodge his foot he's now using to kick his butt for not listening to you. Glad you got paid a nice chunk.

Proper etiquette manner's "act right" and/or common sense you'd think wouldn't even need to be discussed. However, some folks hit big, then the greed demon takes over and they now have amnesia. You know the type? Those who became an annoying gnat begging for a buck, hit it big, then become a "transformer" because now they don't know you. Also let's face it, he who has has the jackpot now has some power. A quick look in your direction than eye contact to casino security (now private body guards.) and guess who's number came up on the food chain?

A few times I felt like "is it me ?" I mean on a now empty row, I'd sit down at one of my favorite penny slots. Within 10-15 mins, folks come through and sit  next to me with me now in the middle. As time goes by, all three of us aren't doing so well. They each began asking for my help when they hit the bonus stages. Soon piercing screams from each lady on the sides of me. The payout crew was busy that day. Jackpots were getting hit all around me. The sides the row behind, in front etc. Everywhere but on the machine that counts the most which is mine..If I were sitting near the back , people would of had jackpots in the restroom. I don't get mad ot jealous  at folks if/when they win. I just think "well they must of needed it more than I do." That day I wondered if they forgot to put my name on the list to win that day? Felt like the kid at a birthday party that didn't get any cake because some adult took their piece.

  • It got me again.

Video Poker that is. Yes, those same dread nickle machines that have been afflicting me for the past month and a half or so. Those same machines that up until then had been pretty consistent and reliable about paying out something as long as you moved around enough or stuck with them long enough. Not alot; but enough to be generally break even, plus or minus a little bit most of the time. And I know that in all forms of VP you're basically losing money at a predictable rate until those elusive high payouts come along. But that's the key, when and if those higher payouts come along. Then, they were coming along. Now, they  are not coming along - almost ever. And I'm talking about hours and hours of  back to back play across multiple machines of the same configuration.

I swear this is just another manifestation of the casinos underhanded trifflings that are designed to lull you into a state of complacency and then suck your money away like a vacuum. And don't talk to me about random variance. This has got to be way more than random variance. A whole bank of machines (say 40 or so) does not just simply maintain a kind of consistency for a few weeks and then just completely change character overnight - across the whole lot. At least they shouldn't, should they? But that's what these seem to have done. All 40 or so of them.

And how is that, almost without fail, when those better hands do hit, say 4-of-a-kinds for example, it's when you've  been forced to drop your bet way down or switch to a different game w/lower payouts for those hands. Never fails. I've been chasing that hand of 4 aces now for hours and hours on Aces and Faces looking for that payout I need to recoup my money and maybe a bit of profit, but now I'm getting dangerously close to bottoming out. So I switch back to Jacks or Better w/a 1 coin bet to start and boom, there it is on the first hand - AAAAK - for a measly 25 credits, rather than the 2400 or so I would've had 2 hands back. Never fails now. A few weeks ago though, I was hitting these hands with regularity, with at least some decent payouts. I guess that's what has been driving me on; just knowing that there in there because I've seen 'em before. Even though I know that something is different - something has changed - and you can't just force these things to put out no matter how much money you throw at 'em. And it doesn't help when the guy next to me tells me he hit a royal on just the very machine I'm sitting at last week for a cool $2000. Or the fact that the only royal I've ever hit in here, or anywhere else execpt Tropica for that matter, was on this very machine. Sure, it was only for $40, but it was a royal. Somewhere deep down I know that past performance is not necessarily any indication of future but all too often something just seems to blind me to this realization.

But the most frustrating thing is facing myself; realizing that I kept pushing it once again knowing this is the case, and having been resolute from the start not to let it get to me and draw me in again. Finding myself at the end, nearly broke and definately disillusioned, asking, "what the hell is wrong with me?!".  It's like it becomes some kind of personal vendetta between me, the game and the casino. Well, really just me and the casino since the game can only do what it's been told to do by the casino. Yes, I said the casino, not just the game programmers. It's becoming more and more apparent to me that there are a range of payouts irregardless of the pay tables' structure that the casino can manipulate at their whim. I know this to be true of slots, be they online or land based. The casinos have a choice of payout percentages to chose from and can change them at will; despite the appearances that a fixed pay table presents. This seems also to be the case with VP, although I have seen avid VP afficianados who swear up and down that this is simply not the case - vowing allegiance to the almighty random variance. Whatever. They sure seem fixed to me.

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes experience this spirit of frustration and determination that forces you to stay on a machine or game far longer than you know is rationally advisable? I guess this is what the casinos count on so they must be lovin' me right about now.

No more though. Tonight, I am resolute. Nothing but Blackjack.

    It's time for a reckoning.

  • mmm...brad, brad, brad (shaking head), man, I could tell you stories. I don't even won't to go there with how much I shelled out.  The frustration part with me comes about when I know for a fact that machine is not paying right. Like what happened to the bonus? A few years ago my gambling partner and I heard the call coming from the Wheel of Fortune game. We go over there and start playing. At first we were doing OK then it became better then came the nose dive. After that whenever we would go to a casino and hear that "Wheel of Fortune!" call,  we'd look at each other and say wheel of fortune is the devil.

To do pretty well on a game than go back to that same machine the next day or week and the machines just seems to laugh at you, starts to make me frustrated. Its like you start to find yourself (well at least me) sitting longer than you had plan to. Spending more than you had wanted to. All because you feel it in your gut...that the moment you turn it loose or be dragged out of there some newbie will sit down and bam! here goes the bells and whistles. Call it being stubborn. You just don't want to be beat nor have this thing get the best of you. When I first started going I spoke to a tech guy about the "loosest slots" pack of lies that casino was trying to sale to the people. This guy tells me that its better for me to play video poker instead of the slots. He says the video poker pays better and that i'd have a better chance at cashing out. The slots on the other hand go through cycles. The times that felt like I was living there, I'd see the techs come by to check out machines. Those times I would say to them "uh oh, I see you have a socket wrench. Its it to tighten the machine again?" I don't care what anyone says about the random crap. You know somethings up. Paranoid ? mmm..its not paranoia if they're really watching you.

  • It's not "The Running of the Bulls".. here it's called "The Running of the MicroChips"

I was sitting once at a penny machine, just a cheezy one in a local Chevron station, which is a Teribles Mart type store up from my house. I would come in get some cigs, sit down and play. The same people were always there on these machines, did they ever sleep, eat, or use the restroom, like they were display window gambling maniquins, you know what i mean.

I got to talking with one, the conversation struck up because the machine i was on and played was my own little reg one, and it was always winning for me. Seems i could sit there and garrantee i would hit those 5 coins and constant free spins. The guy sitting next to me mentioned, "yeah get all you can, in a few days they are going to run the chips" he looked at his watch, "yup it's the 21st within this week". I said, what do you mean.. he said, Once a month they come in and run the microchips installed inside, resetting the jackpots, wins, spins and everything, your machine can go from making you happy to making you misable for a whole month. I said i hope not, i love playing this machine. He kind of chuckled at me.

Yes, it was true, came back a week later played my machine and nothing, day after day, so tight i couldn't even line up three let alone get a coin. I found myself playing sometimes 50 to 100 bucks, losing.. begging for attention, my love affair was over. I also realized my machine had been cheating on me, not only did i know it, others had the love affair as well.. hmph!

  • Cheating on you?

2 can play at that game. Hey, you're in Vegas, it's not the only fish in the sea.
Must be nice to just go right down the street and play. Of course, now we don't even need to leave the house to play if we don't want to.

  • Don't they still have slots in or near public restrooms? Like up in Denny's? I always heard that the people who lived in Vegas could care less. The mainly work in the casinos. At least the ones I know. mmm..then again they could be lying.

  • Brad.. i know, but i was in love and devoted to that fish.. there was just no other fishy for me.. sad lol

Poppy, machines are everywhere here.. you name it, theres machines, with the exception of hospitals and libraries, Walmart refuses to have them. As far as having them near restrooms, i have never paid that any attention.

  • HI, Just to say as any experience it's alot at how U look at it. 1/2 empty or full. and gambling should never be so serious it cant be always 1/2 full. Me a day of play is that. PLAY!!!!!!!!! Wether it at an on-line casino alone or at the park with my kids and friends its a good day.
PS thanks for making it easier to play LCB, but more for getting a little serious and trying to set forth an example of compassion that internet and fast paced world is slowly losing. This is greatly needed as poverty both are issues to face. The lack of connection to create compassion is what creates the ease of condemnation of the fellow man. out of sight out of mind.
AGAIN THANKS FOR BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN ME!!!!!

  • Hi betsy,

Your right when you say there is a loss of compassion. This is something we should never lose sight of. With our world in a state of higher than normal poverty levels, it brings out a greater compassion to help our fellow man.

What is more interesting, it is the ones that don't have it that offer the most compassion at times. Sometimes we just need to feel it and experience to understand it and want to help out others.

    Very nice post!

  • Stuck with Luck..

Ever find yourself asking, how did i get so lucky, i know i have probably a million times.I always ask myself too what is Luck, why does it happen, is there a possiblity we can be stuck with luck?

Walking along the strip is something i do alot, from one end to another, stopping and doing a little gambling at each casino i walk by, sometimes by the time i get to the other end i'm broke and i realized my excersize just cost me three hundred dollars. Then times i'm even.

This one time i got stuck with a fun bonus penny machine and blew my money even before i got half way through the las vegas strip. Get up broke walking away with my tail between my legs, kicking myself harder with each step. I get out on to the strip finally get it in my mind, i lost and i'm broke finish up this walk and go home. I get to the Mirage casino something called my name, so i walk into the front doors, start strolling through, watching the people play, some winning, theres alot of noises of machines, people are cheering craps players, normal casino sounds. I strolled my way to the back of the casino, along a row of quarter 7 machines, it's empty and less noises, as i'm walking i look down to the floor and what do i see from my distance but what looks like small pamplet, as i get closer.. closer.. Oh my goodness is that a hundred dollar bill? It sure was, crispy and brand new, smelling good, i checked it 20 times making sure it was real!

Now i'm a new gambler again on found money! I walk to the front of the casino, there was some Star Wars penny bonus machines i wanted to try, stuck in the hundred, within a few spins got the bonus had that machine up to five hundred dollars! Cash-out time, hit that button, out rolls the little paper with the beautiful letters of cash-out ticket. I walk out of the Mirage remembering i walked in with a feeling of luck, now i'm walking out with luck stuck in my pocket.

To add to this story, a little note, somewhere around a week later, i went for another walk along the strip, making this short i walked through the Mirage again, unbeleivable to my eyes and probably all who reads this, but there in the exact same spot was another one hundred dollar bill, i truley beleive sometimes i am stuck with luck.

  • Wow - nice blog Imagin.

    You are one lucky lady.

A saying my Mum always said to me "it's better to be born lucky than to be born rich".  I think she is right.
