  • Having lived with my roommate for a year or so, I have noticed one odd thing. Many, many of the females he knows do not know how to drive. Many have not even tried to get a license or read the book.

I remember when I was 16, I passed my test for the "Learners Permit" and my Mother finally agreed to teach me more. Parking lots (Tektronix had a HUGE one) were a great starting point. I learned how to handle the car up to 35 mph and to brake and other things. Then it was out on the ROAD and after awhile the HIGHWAY and so I learned.

But I asked several and they'd just shrug and say "Maybe one day I will" and these females are over 22 and some even older! I am just so puzzled, they complain about having to get a guy so they can get somewhere, or taking the bus though.

But when they are told "Then get a license and a car" they say "Someday"....???

Any of our esteemed gambling ladies here have some insight??
  • I didn't bother learning until I was 32!  No particular reason why that I can think of; I guess I was just too busy doing other things.  Plus the fact that when we were kids, we walked everywhere so getting the bus was a novelty.

I wouldn't want to be without my car now though.

  • OMG - I was in the DMV the day I turned 16, and had my license ASAP after that.  I couldn't wait to drive.  It's always been my FREEDOM from one, and from all, just to get in the car & drive.  I've driven coast to coast a couple of times by myself - the first time before they had cell phones!  laugh_out_loud  Now I don't how we all could live without them!

Ironically, it was also the first freedom I had to give up when I got sick.  Because of my advanced COPD, I occasionally pass out without warning, so I decided it was safer for everyone else if I quit. sad  wink  I even sold my sweet little Sebring Convertible - I still miss it.

  • Omg yes...i had to wait til i was 17 cause i was in a boarding school and had to have my "behind the wheel hours" but that was what everyone did back then.  Get your drivers license.  And its not just the ladies....my son is 26 and he still doesnt have his drivers license...i dont get it.  He just keeps saying he'll get it at some point surprise  weird if you ask me.  Unless you live like in San Francisco or New York where its difficult to park or store a car and public transportation is the way to go. cool

  • Maybe they just need an excuse for asking guys to drive them around? smiley

  • I got my license when I was 23 but I don't like to drive. smiley I prefer to walk and I use public transportation only if I have to go somewhere far from where I live.

  • I got my license when i was 18, lost it when i was 21, and got it again when i was 24. I love to drive, it's my bread on the table...........

  • yea mark i dont like to drive either tongue

    its only a necessity

Yes, exactly, if someone need some help or something, and I only drive occasionally so that I don't forget. smiley
  • Driving relaxes me if thats an unusual statement, it just does, get in my car turn my tunes on and think about the road ahead, BUT i also do love to walk and take public transportation i think its fun, the people you meet the stories you hear are so precious, our transportation service are kind of nice here, love the double decker buses spectacular views, being in vegas theres always alot to see...

  • I think it depends where you live too has a great deal to do with it. In a big city or even rural areas it would be pretty tough not having a car.

I was just recently talking to older fella who said when he was growing up everyone walked. His mom would come home with groceries after walking blocks from the store. But things were a lot different back in the day that made it much more easy. There were little neighborhood stores that now big corporations have put under and gone are the ma and pa shops. I think that in itself has made needing a car and learning to drive even more a necessity.
