I was at a local Winco shopping store and after I finished, I went back out to my vehicle and sat and had a sandwich (Pastrami, rye and cheese w/mustard) and I noticed just how clean the parking lot was. No major amount of litter and then I realized....No seagulls, or very many bird or droppings even. I pondered this until I looked at the overhead lights.

Seems someone finally figured out how to keep the birds off the light standards and to do so in a non-viscious way. They had installed what lookes like a denuded umbrella and the splines were in a rainbow pattern so this disturbed any bird trying to land on it.

This has resulted in less bird crap on cars, and trucks and also, the store cleaning crew has less to clean up. I also looked at the store and it too has tines sticking up near the edge so as to discourage birds from sitting on the edge.

Finally a sane and safe way to keep our feathered "Friends" (Ahem) away from us when we really don't need them around...Have you ever had a seagull attack you? I have had some which were pretty agressive, now that has stopped. Thank goodness!

All the seagulls have had babies on the roofs around my house and with this comes disaster. Some of the babies fall off the roof an safely land on the ground. The seagulls are distraught and swoop down at any innocent person walking by.

I had no clue that there was a baby on the ground until I got within inches of it. The mother was flying over my head. Later, I sat outside and watched as poor people walked by and got squawked at. A few had the seagull swooping down just skimming their heads like I did. She darn near took heads off.

Oh they sure can attack especially when trying to protect their babies. What i don't quite understand is how come they can't swoop up the babies with their beaks and bring them back to the nest? Once these little darlings fall off roofs etc. they are destined to eventually die and it's awful to watch the poor parents that appear to be helpless to bring them back to safety.

Yeah, I wish I knew why they don't grab the babies. Just pick em up and bring it back to the nest. Some people got smart like what gene saw. The spikey things are on the roof and the birdies are out of luck.
