Hiya Guys and Dolls,
When it comes to being sick or pain many women feel men are big babies! Men get sick and it's the end of the world while when women get sick they keep right on going!
A recent study suggests that women have a better tolerance to pain and illness then men and one of the reasons for that is that women have twice as many white blood cells then men.
Do you think there is a difference between men and women when they are sick or in pain?

i watched a program called mythbusters about this myth, and the conclusion as i remember it was to do with women and the fact they go through child birth, so they have an higher pain threshold and they tested it with loads of men and women and the women that went through child birth was less susceptible to pain than men....
that is my answer hehehe
but everyone is different and there is always some men that dont let it get to them and same for women too, but usually women do have a higher pain threshold than men

Oh, Lips, this is a big sore spot for me cuz when my husband is sick he just can't get himself out of bed and you would think he is dying. Now me, if you're sick, too damn bad. If I didn't keep on doing the chores while I was sick, they would be compounded for me when I got better. As my grandma would say, he is a big old tittybaby,

i definetly feel we have a higher tolerance for any thing we go through in life, men go through a circumsision as babies which they don't even remember and thats it for them!.. Women have the constant monthly reminder which is advertised on TV excessively.. bloating, tiredness, grumpy, achy feeling i know we don't become totally immune to that but the constant reminders help as we develope alot of immunity to pain, not to mention we squeeze watermelons out of holes the size of key limes, imagine for an instant taking your bottom lip and strecthing it up over your head, TV over dramatizes the actions of child birth, we prepare for the worse pain ever!.. our immunity comes from having to deal with so much other pain and feeling the pain for others as women.. like men when they are sick!

I know for sure that women have a higher tolerance for pain than men... you would too if you ever saw my husband with a hangnail... I get moment by moment reports and he prepares himself for, say, the amputation of the offending limb. And to top that off there must be a philosophical dissertation on why hangnails exist. But, suggest he put a bandaid on it so he won't bump it and he will not do it... after all that would just be sissy...

I do think it's the mothering instinct us women have that men want to be spoiled rotten when they are sick! Women are stronger i think because the show must go on with kids, house work and dinner on the table. Men come home from work and can collapse in a chair with the remote control.
Our work another the other hand is never done!

Personally, I think it's from the time when males get sick that "Mother" then "Mothers" them and sometimes this continues thoughout life.
Of course, there's a book out which denotes the love of a Mother:
"Love you forever"
"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you always,
as long as I'm living
my baby you'll be"
It's a book that when the Pastor of the church I sort of go to read, left tears in my eyes as it was so true.
At one point in the book (Near the end) came the response from the child (Now a grown man)
"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you always,
as long as you're alive
my Mommy you'll be" -

I loved reading that Geneco.. thank you for sharing.. very powerful..
when we find sensitivity in men, thats when we want to turn on our motherly instincts, men can be rediculously helpless sometimes and the greatest of warriors all the time, those two traits exist at the same time, men don't like to reveal that they need us in their lives.. i think evolution has changed that, men were raised to grow up and get out their in the world to be providers, to be strong, not to cry, to give their blood, sweat and tears..i think deep inside they miss being taken care of by women who had the tender touch as their mothers and want it back!..(so they reflect back to being a baby.. hehe lol) things have changed, alot of men stay home and raise the babies (boys and girls).. take care of the house, to do that they won't survive that unless they learn sensitivity.. us women are the teachers..
On a side note... a father came into my store with a return (he was about 45), he took me to the side.. he had a box of pantieliners, he came up to me and said i need to do an exchange, reluctantly and flustered he said "i bought the wrong ones" i told him no problem lets go find what you need, i got a few answers from him about his daughter,it was his daughters "first" and knew the choice he needed, we walked up to the register to fix the purchase, he looked at me and in his eyes i could see choked back tears and with the same in the voice said.. "im just learning, i hope i can make it through this".. i told him you'll do just fine, it will be all right..i wanted to just cry right with him, i think he knew that too. i guess sometimes men in and under some circumstances just want to let it out it doesn't have to be sickness.. -

Such a sweet story imagin and thank goodness he had you to help him. I think much of what you said is so true and some men still feel that crying is a sign of weakness. I think that is so sad for them to feel that way because they need to let out their emotions too.
Internally i think men are as sensitive as women are they just hide it better. -

I was sitting here thinking about my husband when he's sick. I cracked up at the thought. I usually go and check on him and ask if there's anything I can get. He gets this pathetic look on his face almost sad looking. He's says yeah (really pathetic like) I want some juice. Even the tone of his voice changes.
