  • Hi friends!

It's raining in Chicago and it will be a good night for a scary movie. In the last few days we've watched The Rite and Devil. What other good scary ones are out there that we could watch? I'm a little out of the loop with the what's available to rent.

    The scarier the better! Thanks.

  • Paranormal Activity 1, 2 and 3 is about real ghost stories.. these kinds of movies really get to me lo, The Entity (old but still good) The Serpant Rainbow.. How about some Candyman!

  • This is the trailer for Paranoraml 3 one scene and then another, it gives me chills... second one is like.. omg

  • I'm kinda scared to see Paranormal Activity! A couple i know went and saw at the theater and said it took them a couple weeks to get over it.

Yikes! With Halloween coming up next month tis the season for scary movies!

Paranormal Activity wasn't at all scary.  The commercials of the audience jumping and screaming were more scary than the movie.
  • These suggestions are really good. We didn't get to watch a movie last night. I think tonight is the night. I'm wondering if the camera in Paranormal Activity would bother me. I heard the cam is stationary so it shouldn't give me a headache.

I get headaches easily.  The movement wasn't too bad.
  • Who me scared....never happen surprise surprise

  • That pic is hilarious Rosebuddy!

We're watching First Wives Club. What these women do to their exes makes for a great horror flick.  laugh_out_loud

  • Movie "The happiest day in the life of olli maki" is about a boxer who has not too much to do with competitions, he is someone who has no inspiration in winning. He is boxing just because its his compassion. For me it was very unique. It is the last seen film for me.

  • I love scary movies too.........I wanna see that one that just came out Split....it seems interseting and would keep you on the edge of your seat.....but sometimes the orror movies over do it and they lose you on to much scariness.

  • I saw Split a couple weeks ago and when the movie started out I thought it was going to include torture scenes. Thank goodness it didn't and i thought it was really an excellent film. Def recommend it.

I watched the other night The Good Neighbor. First rented movie in a long time that I liked this much. It is a good on the edge of your seat thriller.

  • Thanks  for letting me know about the movie Split...now definitely wanna see it.

  • Just happened to stumble across City Island on TV the other day, and had never heard of it before. I was pleasantly surprised, as I am used to finding the same old movies replayed over and over, to find something totally new and refreshing. The basic plot is that of a totally dysfunctional family with a comedic edge.

It's a little older, having come out back in 2009, but it's worth a watch!

  • Absolutely loved that movie Nat thumbs_up

  • With the Oscars coming up, just wondering who's seen La La Land and what their thoughts were, as it's received so many nominations.

I saw it a few weeks back and, in my opinion, I didn't think the actors gave oscar-worthy performances. It wasn't a bad film, and I'll admit I'm not crazy about musicals but I tried to watch it with any bias aside. Also, I didn't find either Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone to be particularly good singers, especially Emma.

Overall, not a bad film and I can see nominations for music or cinematography, but not the acting.

    Any thoughts?

  • Haven't watched La La Land yet but I have watched Hacksaw Ridge and Lion, enjoyed both as they are quite powerful and emotional films.

  • Loved both La La Land and Hacksaw Ridge. La La Land came as a surprise to me, did not expect I'd like it so much. It's a great throw back to the old Hollywood musicals that I loved as a kid. Songs are very nice...

I saw Split yesterday, also a decent flick. People are praising it a lot, so I expected even more, but to me it's just OK...loved McAvoy in this role (or roles, hehe), he is simply brilliant. This flick seems to be connected to Unbreakable, another M. Night Shyamalan's movie from 2000. I am seeing that one next :)

  • If you want something scary, then I'd recommend "Saw"

  • I saw Split recently as well and found it to be a really good movie... very tense. It really showcased McAvoy's acting skills. I know Saw is a classic nowadays in the scary movie realm and have been told to watch many times, but haven't got around to doing it. I think I'm a bit nervous to actually sit down and watch it! I've heard it's pretty gory!

  • I am starting to miss old Hollywood classics these days, so speaking of those oldies but goldies...I would recommend 12 Angry Men from 1957 to all who havent seen this brilliant film.

The whole story unfolds in the jury room somewhere in USA - a single room! No other locations as far as I can remember! - but even so, the film grabs your attention and doesn't let go until the end! A drama based on a play, very compelling :)

  • I saw The Great Wall recently. It was a blast, really enjoyed it. Colourful high budget Chinese movie staring Jason Bourne with bow and arrows :)

It's one of my all-time favourites, have watched it a few times already and I will probably watch it again in the future.

  •  JohnW i think you mean Matt Damon :D:D:D:D

Watched yesterday TT3D:Closer to the Edge... A documentary about the motorace on isle of man.. It was great, superb, when you wath you start thi... just watch it if you haven't watched it already.

  • Can't wait for Logan! Two more days until the premiere

  • Logan should be good, I was rarely disappointed with any X-Men title. Ok, the last one was so-so... I love what they did with the franchise by resetting it in the Days of Future Past (prolly the best one for me), the story killed it, it reminded me of Wolverine and the X-Men, the animated series...but tis not going to be easy for the new actors to fill in the shoes of the old ones... Anyways, I hope to see Logan this Sunday!

I also really want to go "Logan". On the site Rotten Tomatoes got a lot of good reviews.

  • I watched "The Passangers" (2016) recently. If you are looking for some sci-fi romance, it’s a great-looking film with an original idea.

Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) are two of the 5000 passengers aboard the starship Avalon, headed for an earth-like planet, Homestead II. They’re programmed to hibernate for 120 years in their sleeping pods, but are woken unexpectedly with about 90 years to spare. With no one else but each other and a robotic bartender, Arthur (Michael Sheen) for company, they must either figure out a way to go back to sleep or live out their whole lives on the spaceship as it rips through space...

  • started to think about his and chose to suggest a movie that has gone thru the test of time. the movie is of course TRAINSPOTTING, the first one. everlasting appeal and funny movie. recommended!

  • Just saw 'The Circle' with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Not usually within my genre of choice, but wasn't a bad film. Tom Hanks is definitely not the main character, so if you're going into it expecting another great Tom Hanks film, you will be disappointed. I found Watson to have put on a fantastic performance, but as far as the film itself, the ending felt a bit rushed and I wasn't fully satisfied. People I saw it with were confused when it was over, and I think this was a common reaction among many.

  • Lord of the Rings. Many do not understand it but the part of the action. George Bush-ring-Mordor volcano-Ready! You believe it. Who does the elves symbolize? But the orcs? But Gandalf (like the good Christian you should realize)? Caring tools steals your mind, does not it remember something? Why Boromir's death in the first film (not the pretor to kill the orcs)? Why are the orcs fascinated to make, build? Why does Frodo fail to cast the ring in the volcano? And that can continue until tomorrow. If you manage to answer these questions, you understand the movie.i_love_lcb

  • Lion : story of a very young child, mistakenly misplaced from his parents, in Calcutta, then adopted, and raised in another family in Tasmania, who eventually managed to find the village of his birth
  • well, today we could see a lot of movies, but i think the oldest movies are the best movie (60s,70s ...). i must call to mind few good movies frrom this ages.

  • i have one more! TROPIC THUNDER, if you like comedies then this one is a sure thing. laughed my ass off. laugh_out_loud

  • I just went to see Snatched, a comedy featuring Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer. Definitely had friends throwing in their negative opinions in regards to seeing it, but I actually found it to be pretty hilarious. There were multiple scenes that called for laugh-out-loud moments. If you're looking for a good laugh, at least give it a shot. I'll leave you with two words: tapeworm scene...

Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. killed it in this one, they should have their own separate movies! Actually the whole cast was awesome thumbs_up

  • The beauty and the Beast, With Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.

The story of a beautiful girl who is dreamy and passionate about literature. In a small French village with his father a wacky old inventor. having lost himself one night in the forest, the latter takes refuge in the castle of the Beast, which throws him to the dungeon.

  • Friday is a 1995 American stoner buddy comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray in his directorial debut. It stars Ice Cube, who co-wrote the film with DJ Pooh and Chris Tucker in his first starring role. The film details roughly 16 hours in the lives of unemployed Craig Jones (Cube) and Smokey (Tucker), who must pay a drug dealer $200 by 10:00 p.m. that night

  • Layer Cake - Daniel Craig plays a smart modern drug dealer who last job goes wrong. (Sienna Miller, Tom Hardy, Michael Gambon)

  • We are about to watch A Quiet Place. My friends said it was a good movie and the critics agree.

  • i would love to recommend a documentary called Hypernormalisation. Very eye opening. Also a good tool Americans can use to see why things are the way they are.
