OK folks, here's some news that may shock you, but believe me, this was
INTENTIONAL and my choice.
As you know, I am "Waiting" for a response to my applications. I am still applying
for positions (No sense waiting for something to come to me you know?) In the
meantime, I am living out of my car.
Yes, I said "Living out of my car" and here's why.
Jobs are scarce, my rent was $375 a month plus 1/3 of elec. I will have (As of
April 5th) about $700 cash. I can go alot further on the cash, then I could with
having to pay rent. I have seen this coming and so I am prepared.
I have the usual camping equipment, so I know I can cook just about anything
I want. I have a place to lay my head and blankets. So I am "Houseless" but not
"Homeless"
I can access computers (Library) about an hour everyday and look for work at
the local worksource. I may consider applying for food stamps, but I would use
so little, I am debating that.
So if you don't see me around here as much, there's a reason and this is why. In
time (Providing I get work) I will buy a van and then have it made livable and stay
with that.
So, don't worry about me, I can survive. I just hope you all can do the same.
I will be starting about 7 pm tonight living out of the car. So chuck me some good
wishes and prayers (again) for work. Oh and yes...Ummm..I have a couple of
weapons, so I am not without recourse. -

Thanks for sharing your circumstances, Geneco.
I'm sorry you are in the midst of a rough ride but keep the faith....things will get better.
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, or at least I hope so.
Keep your positive attitude and thoughts are with you!!
Love the 'houseless', not homeless. -

Forgot to add.... I hope it's at least warm where you live.
It's weird, I had a dream last night of driving to a 'homeless area' and opening my trunk to feed the homeless. In my dream I made chicken wild rice soup to feed 100. After the first meal, they needed the food every night and I was beside myself because I couldn't afford to feed that many every day. -

good luck,
I heard you went to school for Pharmacy Technician, right? what happen?
Actually it was "Medical Billing and Coding"...
What happened? Well....
1. Tough field to get into. There's few places who want "Trainees" who they have to watch over everyday for about 6 months before you catch on.
2. Employers want people experienced on their software, which while similar to what we used, it's not the same.
3. It "Might" be because I am 50+ and some employers think I'll cost them more medically then the younger crowd.
Right now, it's an "Employers Market" so they can afford to be choosy
Oh and to Gabby. Spring is coming I know. A bit warmer then usual up here this morning, I'm hoping for a gentle summer though. -

Genenco - unbelievable in this day and age that you have to take to your car to live in it because there is no help for you.
I'm absolutely gobsmacked that you HAVE to do this in order to survive. It sucks big time and I wish you the biggest piece of luck you can get so you can get back on your "feet" as quickly as possible.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Aww Gen I am so sorry to hear this news. I do applaud your positive attitude. My Dad, who is also in his 50's retired after 20 years in the Air Force, has an Associates degree and management skills cannot get a job either because they can hire someone younger for less money. It really sucks!!!!!
I pray that everything will turn around for you very soon!!!!! My family consist of 5 people including myself but I have 9 people living under my roof right now. If you lived closer I would invite you in also. Take care and keep your head up. Love ya. Cindy -

Get out of my brain.
I have a business doing medical billing/coding/finance. Years ago, it was a great business...now... not so much. Everyone is sticking to inhouse.
I lost my biggest account to a hospital buyout(high 6 figures a year) and it sucks. -

Ah, if only I had a car to live in! You are leading the high life, Genenco, and I wish you all the best. I kind of enjoyed the times I lived in my van, on the coast of California. I know a lady that is a higher education Registrar by profession. When I met her she had just gotten the Registrar position at they school where I worked, after having lived in her car for a few months and working on getting the job. She's doing well now. I know you will be doing 'better' soon.

Gene...
I am trying to hold back my tears while writing this as to somehow find the right things to say at this moment...with hope to give you emotional support and encouragement that you need but it seems that I am at loss with words...so please forgive me if I say anything that don't make any sense.
Gene...you and I never met in person but through the years, I came to know you.
When you were in the hospital and later came back, your achievement in the school whether degrees or not and the ways of your viewing things in life have always amazed me and I think very high of you...
You,Gene are an extraordinary person who has the strenght of wire and great wisdom. Sometimes people tells me that I am one of the strongest persons they have ever met...but the truth is...beneath those strengths, so much of pains and suffers that no one can see it.
I was brought up from the family who are fighters...never stopped competing for survivals as they have taught me too...it's a hard method of life...despite how I feel blessed to have the gift, it can be extremely tiresome and exhausting.
I've seen the same strenght from you and I know it will lead you to be stronger in a way and you will make the best out the situations but I can't stop worrying...mostly your health.
It's hard to imagine not having you around every day...
right now I am so sad knowing that I will miss you terribly and so hurt by the life you are facing.
Why is life so freaking damn hard and unbeatable!
Gene...
No matter where you might be, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers..so if you ever feel alone, remember of this crazy me who think you re SUPER COOOL!!! -

Ahhh Gene i know you are not looking for sympathy and are a pillar of strength having to deal with this situation you are in. You have come here to share your hardship with us and that takes great bravery.
You need support and encouragement to stay strong during this turbulent time. As part of the LCB community there is many here who really do care. I can get very emotional when i here stories like this particularly when it is someone i have grown to know as i do you. But if you can be strong the least i can do is be strong right with you.
All i can say is you will be in my thoughts always. And please stay in touch as much as possible because we will all worry. Please take good care of you. Things will get better i have faith they will.

No word from Geneco since March 31.
Sure wish he would pop in and let us know he's okay. It breaks my heart that he is living out of his van but he seems strong and resourceful. Hope his luck turns soon and praying God watches over him and keeps him safe.
I'm not usually overtly religious and certainly not on a casino forum but if ever there was a time to express it..... -

Thanks all of you for your concern. I knew I had many caring friends. I kind of have only a little time in the day to hit the local library so as to surf the web.
This past week, I did over 45 hours (Oh it's a great place to work) and I am learning a machine now and hopefully in 2 months I'll be let loose by myself on it.
They warned me about I'd have to stand all day, frankly I have only had to stand about 2-3 hours so far and so it's alot of sitting and de-burring parts.
Thank you alal again for your concern. I'll be back about every saturday until I get a laptop. -

This week was great, the next will be ( I suspect) so-so. scored 50+ hours this week. Last week nearly hit $400 and so this next paycheck will be nice also.
But we've caught up with most stuff, so I'll probably be reduced to 40 hours. Being trained on this mold press is very interesting as I haave run them before, but they never let the "Workers" really get to know the machine, this is so different and fun to learn.
I am basically thrilled with each day, the thing I found out, was my employer has a workout room and thus, you have to have a shower also and so they do.
so, as soon as I get the van, I can hit my employer up for showers when I wish, I still have my former roomie (He's let me keep my house key, so obviously there's major trust) so I can hit his place and shower andf sleep (In my car) there.
anyway, chin up and keep with the good thoughts and prayers, I do appreciate it all. -

So glad things are "ok" for your Genenco. Sounds like you are coping with sleeping in your car..you just amaze me. If you were sleeping in your car outside my gaff...I would surely let you stay with no charge.
I do think of you often and my thoughts will be with you for the coming week. Stay safe.

Well, another week. sorry I missed last week, but had other things going on. I'm looking better then ever in regards to the job. They just let go another worker who had been "Under performing" for quite awhile.
Had a bit of a slowdown, but things are progressing. The van is still on the horzion, but slow is the steps to it. Just signed up for direct deposit, hope that will go through in another 2 weeks.
anyway, I'm still alive and working. Keep with the good thoughts and prayers, things are working well for me. -
