My First Kiva Loan!

Meet Cecilia!  She lives in Liberia, which is one of the countries that has been ravaged by the Ebola epidemic.  When I was in college, I was assigned many research papers on Ebola, because it is considered a zoonotic (can be transferred from human to animal and vice versa) disease.  Through my research, I learned so much about the daily trials and tribulations of the indigenous people of the Ebola River Communities.

When I learned of another outbreak, and heard that it was the worst one yet, I knew that I wanted to help.  Many people are so uneducated about this virus and therefore are in fear of completely irrational things regarding it.  The average household income in Liberia is only $500, and now it is much, much less because of the quickly spreading disease, many local businesses have had to shut down and people are not only dying of ebola, but now also starvation, malaria, and many pregnancy-related illnesses which were previously treated in hospitals.  For fear of spreading the virus, even most of the pregnancy clinics are shut down to women in labor or children dying from malaria.

Please, I pray, that the people living in Liberia, Sierra Leone, as well as all the other smaller affected countries can overcome this.

I was pleasantly suprised to see the amount that the LCB team has donated to date!  Also have to gives props to slotland for being on our team and donating as well. Going to have to make a deposit there soon!  Would be nice to get more of our reps to get their casinos on board there.

Once I'll reach the kiva voucher amount I'll spend my lcb virtual money for that aswell. Will post it also here. I'm curious how many % of the members spent her/his lcb money for that.

0.244% of all shop items purchased have been Kiva loans.  In fact it's a little lower than that but that's as near as I can get it on the info I have.

jodiisgreat, I have donated money to kiva in past and not through lcb site. I have question for you: What will happen to the money (this 25$ lcb gift card) after it is repaid on kiva? Will that money go back to lcb or is it yours money so you can withdraw that money from kiva or make another loan? *Sorry about my not so good english. Thanks for reply.

I've had the opportunity to loan Kiva credits too, all thaks to LCB! It really feels great, especially if in the everyday life you can't afford to donate as much as you'd like. Feels good to help someone in need.

I gave my first Kiva-loan today,to Carmen Bolivia,Palomar, she can now buy cattle for her farm after my loan because 100% is reached what she asked. Thank you LCB for make that happend with Kiva

I landed 25$ this winter to a woman to have her eyes surgery. In case she pays pack I intend to keep lending money, really felt so good being able to help someone across the world for something critical for her life. Thanks LCB for that chance.

So nice to be able to give back. I am so surprised the U.S. was able to stop this disease in its
tracks. What could it hurt to treat a patient in the country they get sick in.
I know if I am going to be able to give out kava loans, I should have several ready for that day.

Because of LCB/LBB monthly contest Kiva voucher winnings I gave 2 loans in 24 hours, that was amazing feelings when really feld that did something meaningful to help other peoples. Now Teresita from Philippines is able to boost and improve her earnings, she is widow with two children and Lach's group in Campodia is able to buy water filter so they get safe drinking water. Anita is running a kiosk that helps her to generate income for her family. She opened her kiosk a year ago with her own working capital of $1,100. She will use the loan to buy a refrigerator and stock to keep in her store, such as Fanta, CocaCola, water and rice. She is a hardworking woman and she hopes to run a bigger business in the future.
