"Days before the March earthquake in Japan the atmosphere above the epicenter heated rapidly.
At least three days before the M9 earthquake that rocked Japan on March 11, 2011 there was rapid heating of the atmosphere right above Japan as massive amounts of radon was released by the Earth. It is hoped that in the future such indicators could be used to predict a quake in advance and potentially save thousands of lives."
My husband was in San Francisco during the 7.9 quake of 1989 and he said many times that a few days before that October earthquake, the temperatures were summer-like. The day of the earthquake it was very hot and there was no wind; very un-SF-like.
One of his roommates had commented on the weather and lack of animal noises (birds chirping, dogs barking) that it was tornado weather.
Even stranger still was that as the earthquake started, a friend called them from Georgia. He was watching the world series and it blacked out and, for some odd reason, he called them.
The earthquake knocked the phone off the hook and all his friend heard was the rumbling and people screaming, then the call got cut off. It wasn't until a week later that his friend go ahold of them and said he called and heard the quake and then he thought he heard everyone die; a very scary thought indeed.
My Husband Has Been Saying This All Along
