My kids school wants money for something every other day!!!

I was wondering if anyone else experiences this. My kids come home from school at least 3 times a week with a letter from the teacher asking for money for one thing or another. 2 times a month I have to provide snacks for the entire class for both of my kids. It just frustrates me, I have a hard time financially right now, and the last thing I need is a letter from school basically demanding I pay for something I dont find necessary.

oh no....i think the schools get enough money that they dont need to be asking the parents all the time like that.

I dunno where you live, but I get nothing like that.  The only times I get a letter asking for money are when they can't be assed to take the cash out of my bank for his bus and school dinners - it's only due once a month though.  Some months they take it out direct from the bank, and sometimes they send me a pre printed arsey letter saying that UNLESS YOU PAY YOUR CHILD WON'T GET DINNERS.  It's quite funny sometimes.

The other time I get a letter asking for money is for a school trip, which isn't all that often.

I'd speak to the headmaster/headmistress and ask exactly why they're expecting you to fund activities within the school - especially if you live somewhere where the schooling is suppoed to be free/paid for by taxpayers.

Most of the times its for snacks for the kids, or food for parties and most of the time I dont mind, however when it is alllllllll the time it can get a bit frustrating. I have 5 kids, I can only imagine what it would be like once they are all in school!!! Today my son came home with a list of things he needs to bring to school, 1 thing everyday next week. something like a beach towel monday, hat on tuesday, fruit salad wednesday etc. I dont get it. wth do they need 30 beach towels for? LMAO I refuse to send them. I know some will think that is mean of me, but I really cannot afford it.

Yea, i kind of remember this happening with my daughter, notes home asking for snacks, i did as told.. but sometimes i couldn't..

Maybe its about time we send notes to school asking for a loan to buy the snacks... lol i'm only kidding.

I agreed it does get annoying and also can embarress a family that cannot afford it. Its okay but every other day is rediculous almost sounds as if the teacher is loaded up on groceries.

Our school is asking for school supplies because of the financial situation. We are a small town and the super. had to let 4 teachers go because of the cuts. It does get a bit too much, though when it is everyday

Yeah I dont mind providing supplies for my kids or even a few for the class, I usually go to the dollar store for them, but for ridiculous things like beach towels I refuse to do that. I don't care for the schools here in AZ at all!

Yeah, beach towels seem a bit unnecessary. I think asking you to bring that was abit out of line.

I have four kids and I SURE know what you mean!  My state, probably like yours, has cut funding do to declining tax revenues.  But, almost all schools have more money than they did in 2006.  So, the schools are not destitute.  They need to cut back like everyon else.  Remember, behavior and grades were BETTER when schools were spending a fraction of what they are today.

I for one am tired of all the states and cities belly-aching about lack of funds.  Sure, they have less than 2008, but they have way more than 2006.  But, just like the State of California they just grew and grew their entitlements to the point they cannot aford them. 

So, schools, CUT BACK.  Everyone else is.
