Switzerland is set to change its national anthem and they set up a competition to pick the new one. They are looking for a new text but new tunes are welcome as well. Whoever wins will get around 10,000 dollars and quite a bit of pride.

The current anthem text dates back to 1841 and until 1981 it was set to the same tune as the British national anthem - God Save The Queen.

I think the Swiss prove they are quite open-minded with this initiative, it's not easy to change something like the national anthem unless you have a revolution of some sort.

Would you change your country's national anthem?

Interesting and I would organize the same competition for Serbian national anthem. I would change ours in an instant. It shows nothing else but confusion, and absurdity in which we live here. I feel no connection with it.

I would never change our national anthem. I'm from the U.S. and I'm not saying any other country doesn't take pride in where they come from. I can't explain the feeling when I hear our song, it gives me goose bumps. It is the vary basis of our pride and glory and I would not want to see it change for nothing. It makes me proud to be an American.

I with ya on that one fried eggs. It has a sentimental value and changing it would be like rewriting history. It is a tough song to sing and hit some of the high notes and many top singers have been criticized for not performing it to perfection.

I think Whitney Houston sang it the best at the start of a baseball game or was it football, not sure but it will give you the goose bumps fo sho!

The American anthem is one of the best in the world, gives me goose bumps too even though I've never even visited the U.S.

I like the Italian anthem as well, great lyrics and a catchy tune.

I hear ya too fried eggs and whilst I suggested a change to our national anthem, us brits feel more "patriotic" when we hear/sing land of hope and glory than when we hear god save the Queen.

I actually like the British anthem, no special reason, I like the melody and harmonies I guess.

I head so many singers singing the American anthem that it sounds like a pop song to me. I don't mean this in any offensive way. I heard original once or twice, every other time it was Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Kelly Clarkson. I catch myself humming the American anthem.

I think think the Swiss have a lot of free time and resources, since I guess it is not that cheap to just simply change the national anthem. Anyway, I like to think that they are tied to some tradition and history, and usually things that should not be forgotten. On the other hand, sometimes, it is not a bad idea to start a new tradition
Oh, and I also love the British anthem..
