    Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder after his girlfriend was shot and killed at his home in South Africa on Valentine's Day.



    His girlfriend had tweeted the day before Valentine's Day:

    "What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? get excited Valentines Day"

    Little did she know it would be a tragic last day for her.

    The circumstances behind the murder are not clear yet but police say there has been domestic problems at his residence in the past.

    His girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was a model and contestant on Tropika Island of Treasure 5, a South African reality TV show.

    Pistorius aka "Blade Runner" for his use of carbon fiber prosthetic blades, Pistorius won gold medals in the 4 x 100 meter relay and 400 meter individual events at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

    Pistorius is a very popular star in South Africa and is viewed as an ambassador for the nation's sporting achievements. In 2012, Time magazine named him as one of the world's 100 most influential people.

    Some new evidence surfaced today in South African media:

    - A bloodied cricket bat was found inside the hous and became the central piece of evidence in the unfolding murder investigation against Pistorius.

    - Three sources close to the investigation ruled out the possibility that Pistorius could have mistaken Steenkamp for an intruder as there was no sign of forced entry.

    - Apparently the first shot was fired in the bedroom after which Steenkamp locked herself in the bathroom.
