I know, it sounds strange, but that's what the doctors say. It seems that up to a million people in the UK have "completely preventable" severe headaches caused by taking too many painkillers!

The doctors say that some of these patients are trapped in a "vicious cycle" of taking pain relief medication, which then caused even more headaches.

Full article on the BBC website.

I always avoid taking painkillers, but I didn't have a clear reason for doing that, just a "gut feeling". It seems I was right

I avoid using painkillers and I've taken them only a few times in my life; I'm sure the body gets used to them and they don't work anomore after some time and you need more and more to feel an effect.

Thanks for the info Johnny.  I try not to take them if at all possible but if I get a migraine, I don't have a choice.

I recently saw a program on TV that was talking about food replacing medication. If we eat the right foods, we could eliminate the need for any sort of medicine. There's a doctor that truly believes in it and has written a book. It really makes you wonder. What did people do before medicine? All I know is they weren't eating fructose corn syrup.

pain killers don't put a dent on my pain.  they are great for stopping up the digestive system, though.

          I use a lot of hot/cold therapy.

Aspirin was a miracle drug.  Still is, for a lot of people.  Google aspirin and willow bark to see some interesting stories of pain management in older times.
