  • A new series of posts showcasing some amazing people...

Episode 1: Daniel Tammet, the man with an incredible brain

Daniel Paul Tammet is a British autistic savant gifted with a facility for mathematical calculations, sequence memory, and natural language learning.

In his mind, he says, each number up to 10,000 has its own unique shape and feel, that he can "see" results of calculations as landscapes.

He holds the European record for memorising and recounting pi to 22,514 digits in just over five hours. He also speaks quite a few languages: English, French, Finnish, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Estonian, Icelandic, Welsh and Esperanto.

He was challenged to learn Icelandic in one week. Seven days later he appeared on Icelandic television conversing in Icelandic, with his Icelandic language instructor saying it was "not human."

Check out this video: click here.

  • I remember seeing this on TV.  This guy is absolutely incredible,

    blue

  • Incredible, is it true??

  • Unbelievable, I watched all five parts and it was very interesting.

  • Incredible, is it true??

    It is true, yes.
  • Episode 2: Ben Underwoodtaught, the boy with sonar vision

This lad is blind, both of his eyes were removed when he was only 3 years old. But he plays basketball and rides on a bicycle.

He taught himself to use echo location to navigate. No guide-dogs, no sticks, he uses sound to find his way around the world.

He makes a short click sound that bounces back from objects, then his ears pick up the echos to let him know where the respective objects are. As far as I know he is the only person in the world who sees using nothing but echo location.

Here's a video about him: click here
  • great find thanks for the share

  • Now off to Youtube, the memory guy sounds amazing!

  • Episode 3: Daniel Browning Smith - The Rubber Boy

He is the most flexible man alive and a five time Guiness Record holder. He dislocates his arms to crawl through an unstrung tennis racquet. He performs contortion handstands and unique acrobatics.

Here's a video of one of his performances: click here to watch
  • Eww quite creepy but amazing at the same time.

    blue

  • I'm not sure I'm disgusted or impressed by the Rubber Man.  I was in pain watching him.

  • Episode 4: Michel Lotito - the man who can eat anything

This guy was born in 1950 and he is a French entertainer. He became famous as the consumer of all sorts of undigestable things, and is known as "Monsieur Mangetout" (Mister Eat-it-all).

He ate metal, glass, rubber, bicycles, televisions, a Cessna 150, and so on. He needed two years to eat that aircraft though, from 1978 to 1980.

He apparently possesses a stomach and intestine with walls of twice the usual thickness, and his digestive acids are abnormally powerful, allowing him to digest a certain portion of his strange meals.

Here's more about him in a video: click here to watch
  • Hmm... interesting. My stomach might hurt after drinking water. smiley Not fair.

  • I guess he has to stay away from magnets though smiley

  • Yes, I guess there's always a good side and a bad side of everything.

  • Episode 5: Rathakrishnan Velu - King Tooth

On August 30, 2007, Rathakrishnan Velu (aka Raja Gigi) broke his own world record for pulling a train with his teeth. The new record was staggering: 6 coaches attached weighing 297.1 tons over a distance of 2.8 metres at the Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station.

Raja Gigi, from Tampin in Malaysia learned a technique of concentrating his powers to any part of his body from an Indian guru at the age of 14.

Here's footage of the world record: click here to watch.
  • Episode 6: Liew Thow Lin aka The Magnetic Man

Liew Thow Lin, a 70-year-old retired contractor from Malaysia, recently stunned the world as he pulled a car twenty meters along a level surface by means of an iron chain hooked to an iron plate on his midriff.

He discovered his talent hanks to curiosity. He says he took several iron objects and put them on his abdomen, and was surprised to see all the objects including an iron, stuck on his skin and didn't fall down.

  • That is pretty amazing Johnny.  I wonder how this can happen?

    blue

  •           He'd be great at parties!!! laugh_out_loud

  • That's amazing. Hmm, is there any explanation for this?

  • There is no 100% exact explanation, but it seems his body generates abnormal amounts of magnetic energy. Moreover, his children and grandchildren also seem to possess this ability.

  • Episode 7: Thai Ngoc, aka The Man who doesn't Sleep

This man is my favourite so far among these "special" blokes: he is 64 years old and his name is Thai Ngoc. What's special about him is that he said he could not sleep at night after getting a fever in 1973. And he couldn't sleep for... 11,700 consecutive nights!

"I don't know whether the insomnia has impacted my health or not. But I'm still healthy and can farm normally like others," the man said.

His wife said, "My husband used to sleep well, but these days, even liquor cannot put him down."

Doctors gave him a clean bill of health, except a minor decline in liver function. The man is a farmer and he works all day, no problem at all.

The good thing about his lack of sleep is that he is the one who guards the farm at night to prevent theft. On the other hand, maybe related to all those sleepless nights, he has 6 children smiley

I am an insomniac too but I never managed more than two consecutive sleepless nights.
  • That's quite incredible. I can't imagine not being able to sleep; I'm sleepy right now. smiley I didn't sleep for 36 hours once; I was traveling on that occasion.

  • That is pretty incredible.  You would think he would be just totally exhausted all the time.

This one gets my vote too Johnny.

    blue

  • Episode 8: Tim Cridland, aka The Torture King

Tim Cridland is really unusual as he doesn't seem to feel pain like the rest of people. He pushed needles into his arms without flinching and now performs a really scary act for audiences all over America.

Scientific tests have shown that Tim can tolerate much higher levels of pain than the average human being. But he does use science when piercing his body with all sorts of tools, he knows where to insert those in order to avoid puncturing arteries for instance.

Quite spooky this one... I surely wouldn't watch his act.
  • How absolutely revolting.

Makes me shudder looking at that pic.

    blue

  • I hate needles; I managed not to see the picture and I have no desire to do so.

  • Episode 9 - Kevin Richardson, aka "The Lion Whisperer"

This is another favourite of mine. Animal behaviourist Kevin Richardson says he relies on instinct to form an intimate bond with the lions.

His magic not only works for lions but other animals such as cheetahs, leopards and even hyenas, he can just sit with them without being afraid.

But lions remain his favourites, check out the video.
  • Great video Johnny! I remember watching a show about him, I was impressed. Excellent story.

  • Episode 10: Claudio Pinto, aka The Eye-Popping Man

Claudio Pinto can pop both of his eyes 4 cm (about 1 and a half inch) or 95% out of their sockets.

He has undergone various tests and doctors say they have never seen or heard of a person who can pop the eyes as much as him. "It is a pretty easy way to make money. I can pop my eyes out four centimetres each, it is a gift from God, I feel blessed," Claudio says.

Quite freaky to be honest, what do you think?
  • 'orrible!

Really just yuk.  It's a wonder they don't pop out completely.

    blue

  • That's freaky. I'm glad he looks at it positively - easy way to make money. Good for him.

  • Episode 11: Biba - The Electric Man

Biba is a man who does not get affected by any kind of electric charge, he also enters the Guinness Book of records. The lad is from Serbia, so probably Markotik or Zuga know more about him.

Here's a pretty impressive video about Biba: click here
  • He is incredible and it's scary to think that it could actually harm him if it went wrong.

Neat when he cooked that sausage.

    blue

  • Yes, I remembered him when Johnny started this topic. I wondered if there was going to be a story about him. He appeared in many TV shows very often but , as many other people, forgot about him. But what he does is really impressive.

  • I saw the first guy on the news.  My brain hurt thinking of what he could do.... and to think I thought I had an amazing ability because I can move my boobs.  One at a time or both at once.  Up down, side to side, any which way. :p

  • and to think I thought I had an amazing ability because I can move my boobs.  One at a time or both at once.  Up down, side to side, any which way. :p

Episode 12 might be about you then tongue
  • lol Johnny smiley

  • Episode 12 - Wim Hof, aka The IceMan

Wim Hof is a Dutch adventurer, nicknamed the Iceman for his ability to withstand extreme cold. He is considered a master of "Tummo" meditation and is the first person in the world to achieve scientific validity for this practice.

He holds eighteen world records including a world record for longest ice bath. He broke his previous world record by staying immersed in ice for 1 hour, 13 minutes and 48 seconds at Guinness World Records 2008.

He uses the Tantric Buddhist practice of Tummo to control his body temperature and he says he just  "turns his own thermostat up" using his mind.

P.S.: I don't have any more entries prepared for this list, so if you know any such people, feel free to post wink
  • Thanks Johnny for a very interesting thread.

i did come across a video when I watched your first one in this thread and I had to watch all the episodes to find out what happened.  There are 5 videos in all and here is part 1 - Reincarnation, the amazing story of a scottish child.

    blue

  • Since everyone in my office is getting sick I surely need some Tantric Buddhist practices and mind control - "You're not getting sick, you're not sick..."

And the story about the scottish boy is very intriguing.

  • Since everyone in my office is getting sick I surely need some Tantric Buddhist practices and mind control - "You're not getting sick, you're not sick..."

Need any help? "You're not getting sick, you're not sick..." smiley
  • Thanks Johnny, it's much appreciated. smiley

  • I saw this thread a few days ago,

I watched this series and the stories was and are amazing, but some i do find hard to actually think they have these abilities, but i dunno, sometimes we cant always understand things and there isnt always answer to answer things,

so i supose they are amazing though smiley
