Preventing Panic........

The terrible tragedy that happened in Brazil due to a fire in a night club left 232 people trapped inside dead.

Could this have been prevented? Maybe more exit doors in public places? The real cause of death here is not the fire but the panic of a fury of people racing to the door to get out that caused a virtual blockade.

Just like we learn in school to stop, drop and roll when there is a fire shouldn't schools include the number one way to survive is not panic? This would pertain to any situation where your life is in jeopardy.

I think in today's society with all the violence going on it should be mandatory to teach and educate how not to panic in serious situations.

What do you think? Would it help, could it make a difference, would it have made a difference in this horrible tragedy in Brazil?

I also think it is a hard one to answer, because it was a nightclub, so maybe more fire exits wont help that much, what i think people are forgetting is the fact people was probably high and or highly intoxicated too, i saw that this doesn't get mentioned in the news, so would that lead people to react slower and maybe not think something serious was happening before it was too late.

Cos we have slower reaction times when under the influence.

But given what happened it is a tragedy and my thoughts are with all the family's of the ones that died at this tragic time.

Terrible thing indeed, watched several news reports on that.

I'm sure that better prevention measures would have at least made the victims tally a bit lower, every life counts.

There have been so many of these nightclub fire tragedies and I've got to say when people think they are going to burn up, they will panic.  No way to stop that.  Maybe don't have such large dang nightclubs.

Maybe you are right chilly panic is a difficult thing to control and it can stifle people in so many different ways in their lives. I just think besides reading, writing and arithmetic, adapting in the sea of life should be a required course that is taught.
