  • I just saw a news item on the internet saying that Randy Savage is dead having been killed in a car crash.

That's a huge shocker I have to say.

    Is it true?

  • Yes! I just saw that too. He had a heart attack behind the wheel. 58 years old. What a shame.

Awww - that's a huge shame.  He was very young.

    Thanks Froggy.

  • blue, they broadcast wrestleing over there? If your familiar with some of the history of wrestleing, I'll share a storey, where you'll get a laugh

They do indeed broadcast it here but you have to pay for the channels now (it used to be free) but I did enjoy the WWF.  I am familiar but it's been a while since I saw it.

  • back in the 70's, they had wrestleing matches at a place in San Francisco, called the Cow Palace. In todays wrestleing, theres much more bravado, (meaning basically the B.S.), but otherwise it's is the same, good vs evil. Back in the 70's, I was a teenager, and a few of us had our drivers lisences. So when the wrestleing matches came to the Cow Palace, a few of us buddies, would get our beer, (by getting someone older than us to buy it) and get into one of our cars, and go to them.
On this paticular show, we snuk some beer into show, ( we actually always did) but coming down to the second to last match, it was for the heavyweight championship, and the bad guy, beat the good by cheating. He threw salt in his face, ( or something) when the referee wasn't looking. and it wasn't a contest after that.
So we we're fairly close to ring side, as you can imagine, the whole crowd, was really upset. I got as close to this wrestler, ( Moon Dog Mane) was his name) as I could, he was surrounded by rent- a-cops.( security, but not real cops, they only have batons). So I yield, HEY. The cops and the wrestler turned at me, with my full cup of beer, I let it go at them.
Everyone in the Cow Palace cheered, and the rent-a-cops and the wrestler started coming at me.
I proceeded to hi tail it out of the Cow Palace, down the main isle. The cowd is going nuts. There cheering, and holaring, RUN BOY RUN. I made it to where you give them your tickets to enter, (turnstyle I believe is the proper word) and it was all locked, so nobody could get in, or out.
I turned around and theres 6 of them coming, with nowhere to go, I holared I give up. It didn't matter, they put those batons to me, and drug me to their security office, inside the Cow Palace.
They asked for my identification, and I showed it to them. They said, awe shit, he's only 16, I was a minor. Apperently to much paperwork for them to deal with. So they said get out, and don't come back.
There was still 1 match left, with my friends inside still. I checked things outside the Cow Palace, was able to sneak back in, found my friends, and they said, hey the guy that threw the beer, and had the cops chaseing him, it sure did look like you. Realizeing, it's a bit dark, they saw some blood running from the side of my face, then they realized, and we all cracked up laughing, I mean a gut wrenching laugh.
An evening, never to be forgotten.

  • I always liked Rowdy Roddy Piper.  But most of all, Wa-hoo McDaniels.  He'd always show up on the 10 o'clock news on Channel 5 in San Antonio.  And after the news was over, they'd have wrestling except I think on Friday night, when it would be Project Terror.  Long live the Macho Man!

  • Wow Rico - that is some story.  Good job you were only 16.  You remember so much detail and I can see why you say it was an evening never to be forgotten.

How the wrestling has changed though from those days.  It's all so fake now which is a big shame (but still enjoyable).

  • LOL OMG I just remembered when I was about 12 I used to go around telling people I wanted to be a lady wrestler!

There weren't any that I knew of back then.  And I don't know if it's more fake now than real, but it sure got hokey at times.

  • It should be called a night of physical entertainment. Wrestleing it's not. but those guys have to be in shape, excellent shape. to be thrown around as such.
I went into the ring one night, after the matches we're over. Take my word for it, the matt, is similar to a trampoline. Meaning, your not going to be hurt, when body slammed to the matt, can't happen.
But they put on a good show, with there B.,S..

When I have a drink, in a few, I'll say Randy
I'll take care of Elizabeth for ya. Rip

Blue, thats a good story? Well I'll admit, I've told it enough to have it memorized.
                But it is very true.

  • I know it's true and I hope you didn't think I suggested that it wasn't by using the word "story".  How different the use of words are from UK to USA.  I never thought for one second that it wasn't true.  It was clearly a strong memory recounted as it happened.

I'll lift a glass to the memory of Randy Savage too.
