Recreational Marijuana in Colorado

I read the story earlier today about stores selling recreational marijuana, legally, in Colorado as of today.  Apparently there was a queue of 100 people waiting to be served at 8am US time outside a handful of stores. The law allowing the sale of "personal use" drugs was allowed in 2012.

Do you think this is a good thing, bearing in mind it can help people suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder and other painful/debilitating ailments?

Awesome thread blue. First I heard of this being available for recreational use. It's a tough question to answer considering there are pros and cons to it. I think my major concern would be those driving high. It's worry enough with the drinking.

I remember as a teen smoking weed and when at a stop I thought the car in front of me was reversing and it was actually me with my foot on the gas!

Not being a weed smoker myself don't matter much to me one way or the other. I think its worth giving it a test run and see how well it goes over.

It's so awesome I'm considering moving across the country lol.

Well my opinion seeming i am now a non-smoker is,

Although i don't personally have any problems with it and if this happened in other country's too even the uk where i am i would think it is ok. but furthermore in our country the government is paying a lot to do anti smoking adverts and what not - and i don't know if that is the same in the USA too but also governments do get a percentage of the profit anyway, same for smoking and drinking, so this would just be another way governments can make some extra money.

But getting back to the anti smoking stuff, if you smoke weed but example you didn't smoke cigarettes, you are still smoking in my opinion, so the people that actually say they are a non smoker contradict themselves, anyway this is just my opinion  

But then my point was this, its crazy that governments are actually doing this now at a time of the heightened publicity about how bad smoking is and so on, so because smoking weed is smoking, it is bad for us, so governments that is now allowing this are actually contradicting themselves too with the anti smoking stuff o well the world is crazy anyway full of contradictions

You make a really good point RJ about the whole smoking issue. Smoking is extremely taboo here in the States and you can't smoke anywhere in a public place having to stand 15 feet from any door to smoke outside. I know in my state they have went as far as passing a law that all cigarettes are not allowed to be visible and have to be hidden from the public eye at the counter.

I do know some weed smokers and they are thrilled to death about the prospect of this law to be passed. Even if it is used for medical reasons they are coming up with more and more beneficial reasons including to those who suffer from depression.

I never been a pot smoker, never liked the way I feel. I'm for it if it helps those in need it. I wonder how long it will last, people will def take advantage of it.  An from a law enforcement  perspective how much is too much while driving? It's not like there is a way to test for it on the street like alcohol. Should be very interesting to watch unfold.

That is a valid point DreamRJ but don't forget, you can eat it in cake (as per coffee shops in Amsterdam) so you don't necessarily have to smoke it. 

I have tried smoking it once many years ago and I gotta say, I hated how it made me feel.  I do believe I went an odd shade of green....never to be tried ever again.

Was pot head in the 70's but grew up and grew out of it. Everybody who wants it is doing it so heck why not make it legal the way I see it. Would prefer they start jumping on the band wagon and legalize internet gambling first. Just a matter of time for everything I reckon.

@lipstick - yes true too and same in the uk, smokers cant smoke in public places now either, they can still smoke outside but i think they might make smoking outside illegal soon too, but that is just damn crazy haha scary they can actually ban smoking in a free outside space it is out of order in my opinion, governments think they can get away with these things too.

@blueday - yes i knew about cakes and eating it orally, but i just commented about the actual smoke, cos afterall that is the most common form of the way people actually use weed anyway.

And i used to smoke weed for a few years when i was 16 but i could only smoke a mild one and have like 5 or 10 drags on one, but then i stopped when i was 18 cos it was just making me even more paranoid and i noticed this and i just stopped and then just continued to smoke normal cigarettes. but yes i dont like the feeling you get from smoking it either, i really dont understand what the appeal is for it.

At least i am an official non smoker now for nearly 11 months now. dead proud of myself i am, and thanks to e-lite electric cigarettes too
