  • I just heard that one of the best voices in the current musical industry, Amy Winehouse, was found dead in her London home. Cause of death: probably an overdose.

What a sad, sad end for such a talent, my heart is weeping!  :'(

    RIP Amy

  • I don't find it sad at all; you party it up with copious amounts of drugs, what do you expect to happen?...Magic rainbows to shoot out yer azz?

  • True, but didn't the same happen to Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, and so many others, and we still find it sad...

I agree that drugs and alcohol obviously lead nowhere, but I wouldn't dare to say that she got what she deserved. It really pains me when I see such a young and talented life get so self-destructive and wasted in vain.

In the end, who knows what her real problem was when she was so obviously killing herself with drugs.

  • I don't find it sad at all; you party it up with copious amounts of drugs, what do you expect to happen?...Magic rainbows to shoot out yer azz?

Wow that was cold dtsweet even for you. I think what is forgotten is anyone that does that kind of drugging as she did has an underlining problem obviously. Whether it be depression or on a mental level something led her to this.

She went into rehab in May and only ended up staying a few days. She wanted help but like so many couldn't quite fight the fight.

Wish her family, friends and fans the solace during this time and for Amy -  may she be singing with all the great ones and free from the chains that plagued her earthbound.

  • Hopefully her tortured soul is at peace. It doesn't matter who you are...drugs are a equal opportunity destroyer!!

  • little cold perhaps, but remember, people ELECT to take drugs....it isn't as though noone today isn't aware of the effects...if you intend to party hard and ride high, this isn't exactly an unforeseen consequence. Is her talent a loss? Sure. But I'd have more sympathy if she died in an auto accident.
Is her loss any more tragic than the addict on the street who didn't meet his potential? All deaths are tragic; I've just less sympathy for those who put themselves in FRONT of the train as opposed to accidentally get hit by one.

  • I was really shocked when I heard the news... she had a lot of talent.

  • I'm totally shocked.  She was an amazing artist.  What a waste of a life.

    blue

  • Well, they tried to make her go to rehab but she said no...Okay.

Another talent wasted, down the drain. As Hendrix, Joplin & Morrisson she now joins the 27 club as the latest member. But enough about Amy (We saw it coming) Winehouse. How about the 92 ppl that were murdred in Norway? Now that's tragic!

  • What shame. Such a talent wasted. I loved her voice.

Wow TommyGuns, I didn't realize that they were all 27. Ya learn something new everyday.

  • It's sad that she chose to ruin her life like that, an amazing talent that made all the wrong choices...

  • Shocking?  No

    Unexpected?  No

Just a matter of time?  Yes.

It's sad that her biggest hit was about Rehab which it seemed she mocked.

Some would say she obviously had deep underlying issues. Possibly.  Could have been one of those people who stupidly try drugs once and are instantly hooked.

  • I couldn't agree more with dtsweet...and oddly enough, (i'm a tabliod junkie) I was just reading in one of my magazines not even a week ago about her pulling out of rehab to go on tour and it mentioned if she didn't stick to her programs she's gonna end up dead then a few days later BAM!!!

  • dtsweet is RIGHT ON.  Yes, yes, it is sad when a human life is lost.  But, she made (bad) choices.  And glorifying the "Amy Winehouses" of the world with too much empathy is problematic.  She trivialized drug use, bolstered by the media "ain't it cool Winehouse is messed up again!"  RIP Amy, but shame on you for perpetuating the drug culture.

  • I do feel bad that she died, I never listened to any of her music, but she seemed like a troubled soul.  Having said that, I have little sympathy for addicts, in general.  If you really WANT to stop something, you will.  I have lived around all sorts of addicts since I was little so I am not just pulling this out of my ass.  Life, and sometimes death, is all the things you choose to do or not do.  I just hope that her death might be a wakeup call to others on her same path.

  • I love what you said wmmeden. I know someone that really needs to stop what she is doing. She knows  it's wrong but couldn't care less about who she hurts. Can't force people to change I guess nor can we take on the weight of the world because of the choices THEY make.

I'm feeling sorry for the friends and family of Amy Winehouse.

  • excuse my ignorance, but who is Amy Winehouse, and why are a few people careing, or is this a lets feel sorry for anyone today?

  • Amy Winehouse was a singer. Her life was publicized near enough every day in the UK tabloids.  What a shame, that she wasn't strong enough to let go of her addictions. RIP Amy

You make a great point and sometimes the real victims are those who have to be exposed to the addict. But in defense for the addicts i have to say we are all looking at it with a healthy mindset.

Addicts are troubled souls and i think the real question is what put them there in the first place.

froggy i total get you being on the receiving end and it can be very frustrating and when it effects your life too it just ain't fair.

  • not quite true...some people turn to drugs simple out of boredom, cheap thrills and a 'good ol time'.......end of day, they CHOSE that intial step..if shes bright enough to write a whack of clever songs, carry out notes on key, heck, even wake and dress herself, she's bright enought to know where drug use could lead

  • I never listened to Amy, was never exposed.  From what I hear she had several overdoses in the past, and that should have woken up her bright butt.  Intelligence has nothing to do with it really, after you are addicted.  Neither does talent.  Strength and commitment and support are about all you can have to get relief from addictions.  dtsweet, don't forget nicotine is a drug, and I know you are intelligent and know what smoking will probably lead to.  I watched my dad die from smoking cigarettes-would be sad if the same happened to someone I knew.  It's a horrible way to go.  Would have rather have seen him go quickly from a tragic overdose than waste away for a year and be in so much pain.  just saying....

  • Perfect point made chilly! It reminds me of a story that happened a few years ago.........

A good friend of mine who is a smoker and was trying desperately to kick the habit and never could was on a roll about her sister. Now my friend is very slender and her sister was over weight and she had just got off the phone with her over weight sister telling her how awful her eating habits are and how she needed to give up her food addiction.

The whole time she is telling me and getting worked up about her sisters weight she is smoking like there is no tomorrow. I contemplated to make mention of it but being she was so fired up i waited a bit til she calmed down.

I then asked her.....do you have an addiction? And she looked at me ready to say no as she blew smoke across the table and stopped herself cold. I said it's not easy is it to give up ciggys is it? I said now take that same struggle your sister has and don't be so hard on her.

Everyone has an addiction of some sort and its not fair to say one addiction is worse then their own.  Before we start condemning people for their bad habits we need to take a closer look at our own demons then maybe we can relate.......

    Now what did i do with that damn lighter!!  laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud

  • lol, im addicted to cigarettes..but I KNOW cancer is a real possibility..I can't cry foul if I develop it

  • so true.  would still be sad.  Maybe try not to inhale.  wink

  • sure, sad granted
    but here's my take basically
So an artist died..is it a loss of wasted talent? Sure. . But why so much stock because she's an artist, or any actor, singer, performer?  Why do they get some elevated sense of attention? I'm sure a great dentist, mechanic, architect died yesterday as well, accidentally or from a self-inflicted OD. I'd have more sympathy for a talent wasted, a life even, because she got hit by a bus, taken out by a mad fan, or died pf pneumonia not because of her habits.. Did she have personal demons? Most likely. But day one, BEFORE the addiciton, she chose a path that generally, if not leading to self-destruction, does not lend to self-preservation.
So why does Amy Winehouse get such attention, not the dead coked-out lawyer at his desk, the dead crack-addict on the street, the dead paid-medicated mother of 2.?

  • I think I am a bit more coldblooded than most.  I have no patience for whiners.  Everyone at some point in their life has had something bad happen to them.  You can deal with it and get on with life or you can let it eat at you and use it as a crutch and an excuse for certain behaviors.  How many people have had bad childhoods, lost those closest to them, been down and out and chose to get off their butts and be proactive?  Criminals like to use the excuse about abuse and such.  That is BS.  A crackhead is a crackhead is a crackhead.   Maybe this world is too hard for some, but I bet it sure beats being dead.

  • I've got no clue.  Guess she must be pretty, or something.  Too bad it wasn't Casey Anthony that kicked the bucket.

I think it's just that she has been plastered all over the news and people love dirty laundry.  Personally, her death doesn't upset me.  Baby killers do.

Was Amy a whiner about her habits?  I'll bet she had tons of hangers-on who supported her drug habit in many different ways.  And besides that, heck, she could have died from something else.  They only suspect it was an overdose, right?

If I die from smoking weed, you guys please don't feel sorry for me.  And if I overdose on pot, well, at least I probably died happy.  Happy that I had enough pot to OD on.  Or any at all.  My only excuse is I happen to like it.

  • Chilly, never know anyone to OD on weed so I think you'll be OK. laugh_out_loud

  • Couldn't agree more about Casey Anthony, Chilly.  That case still bugs the crap outta me.

Amy was on a week long drinking binge.  Her mom saw her the day before and knew it was a matter of time.  They think it was a bad esctasy pill.  She was on mulitiple drugs and no doubt in my mind....she OD'd.

My hubby and I just had dinner with another couple and the subject of weed came out.  I still call it 'pot' which was the term in my day.  I was asking how in the world do people find the stuff all the time?  I'm probably such a goody too shoes because I'm too dense to know where to find anything. laugh_out_loud

  • gabby, chances are if you knocked on 3 neighbours' doors, one could score for you, lol..it's sadly prevalent

  • I'm such a straight and narrow, dsweet, maybe I will knock on a door or 2 to liven things up. smiley

This is not a portrait of a healthy person.

  • geez...she looks like half the westside of San Antonio!

I wish I only had to knock on doors to score some pot.  Alas, I'm good enough to know when I don't have money for it, I can't have any.  Stupid beer gets passed around all over the place but it just makes me sleepy and, if I have too much, stupid and/or dangerous.  The only thing wrong with the pot is it isn't legal.  Okay, maybe there are other things wrong with it, but that's the only thing I can think of.  I'm not advocating it for anyone who hasn't tried it.  You'll like it too much.  Just give it to me.  laugh_out_loud  whistle

Anyway, poor girl, yes you could see it was quickly becoming inevitable that the end was near.

  • If you think Amy Winehouse's story is tragic, try this one.  So very very sad.

SAN ANTONIO -- A 6-year-old girl was found dead inside a large microwave in her family's backyard Saturday night, police said.

Police said Rebecca Herrera was reported missing shortly before 7 p.m., and discovered at about 10 p.m. in what officers described as a large, old-fashioned microwave.

Her death is currently being treated as an accidental sudden death.

Stephanie Almendarez, who lives across the street from the girl's home in the 4200 block of Wild Oak Drive, said her husband and children got on their bikes and helped search the neighborhood for the girl.

"I heard somebody yell that they found her. And then I heard crying, so I thought she was OK," said Almendarez.

Rebecca's uncle, Lee Baca, said Herrera's father is a San Antonio police bike patrol officer. He was in Florida when the accident happened, serving with the marine reserves.

Baca said he was devastated by the news and flew home Sunday morning.

The family spent Sunday celebrating Rebecca's life.

"Just going and talking about stories we had about her," Baca said. "She had an infectious smile. Any time she saw you, she'd just go run up to you and hug you."

No one has been charged with a crime.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office is still working to determine exactly how she died.

  • You are right Chillymellow, that is a sad and rather peculiar story. In Amy's case we're talking about somebody who did all that she could to end her life much sooner than she might have deserved.
