I stumbled across this interesting article about kids who literally risk their lives on the way to school. Here's a complete article about it.

I found it quite unbelievable and commendable. I like to believe I'd do the same, and you?

Wow.  Just Wow.  How many kids in America gripe because they have to walk 1/4 mile to school?

My daughter is student teaching 4th grade. Graduates in Dec.  She has 35 in her class.  8 have English as their 2nd language.  5 live in homeless shelters.  1 in a secret shelter.  1 is a selective mute after mom died.
These kids try and try.  Sadly, some have 10 or 11 siblings and no help from parents.  Some parents don't speak English and more than one has a parent in jail.  I give them huge kudos for trying.

Scaling a cliff to get to school?  My oh my.  I hope I would do that in order to have a better life.

I agree Gabby, even if it's no guarantee, education surely gives some hope for a better life.

It's not just in US, most of the children across the world have to walk for at least few miles to get to the school. It used to be same case in my country aswell. My gradnpa told me many stories how he used to walk for 4-5 milles, over the snow to get to school. It's still wierd that this kind of thins happen in 21th centry tho.

Well today we are having tornado warnings and very bad weather but the kids are off to school on the bus. It is very sad that the safety of the children are put on the back burner so that kids can get to school. Education is very important but at the risk of kids . Last year because school did not close and there was a bad snow storm, Kids were trapped in school and the Mayor took a lot of heat for that gem of a decision. I think school should have most  definitely closed today  8'|.

Agreed Rena its outrageous to risk your childs life in order to send them to school regardless of how valuable you feel that education to be, what use is it to you or them when they are gone in a pointless waste of life? ... I hope someday every child can get their education without such obscene hurdles in the way....
