  • Hiya Guys and Dolls,

With one of the most memorable days in history on May 1st with Osama Bin Laden out of the picture do you feel that it is momentous enough to declare it a National Holiday?

His death comes within one day of the other devil himself HItler! Just saw it on a TV show that point of trivia but they claimed it was the same day May 1st. I googled it and it states it was April 30th. So now i am confused!

  • Well, didn't he die a week ago, actually?

  • Huh? I thought that rumor was going around!
  • That's what I heard on Geraldo last night.  However, it looks as if he was killed Monday, May 2, local time (Abbotabad?).  Maybe.  I dunno-I can't seem to find an official date/time of death.

But back to the question, I don't think it should be a national holiday.  Perhaps a world-wide one?

  • National holiday or not, I'd venture 2 say there r people celebrating all over the world.... I know I am.  Justice has been done.

  • Yes they are celebrating all over the world and it's nice to see! It is like day of unity for many countries.

    Home of the brave.......yes!

  • Well, its a great day, but I vote NO HOLIDAY.

First, there is no tradition of declaring a holiday every time a despotic ruler is killed.

Second, we have too many holidays.  My gosh, when you add up Federal and state holidays we have way too many.

  • LOL 1st May is a holiday in UK anyway.
It turns into the first monday of the month.
In Scotland it is celebrated as Beltain fire Festival...washing your face in the morning dew(to stay pretty).
I have been to the festival a few times and its great fun. ( family event)

  • I don' think the date of his killing should be a holiday.

I would rather remember 9/11 and those that died that day instead of the day the monster who master minded the event was killed.

  • A Great Day For Freedom

good to celebrate a huge blow to terrorism.

Doc, there can never be too many holidays.  Life is too short.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but I think there are plenty of people right behind Osama wanting to step in and take his place.
    I'm certainly glad he's dead but I'm not feeling 100% at ease....yet.
  • Bring 'em on!  We'll put them in their rightful spot right there next to Bin Laden.

I don't feel at ease either. One minute i am thinking that they are going to attack in big way then the other i think it will be the demise of Al Qaeda.

I hope and pray everything is quiet.

  • Don't think we should have a holiday for this for the same reason there is none for 911.

  • May 1st already is a National Holiday in some countries because it's the International Workers' Day.

  • I'm thinking no holiday. It doesn't really have that celebratory connotation for me not to mention declaring a national holiday may fuel the fire amongst those butting heads for the lead role in Al Qaeda. I agree with others that don't feel safe.

  • I don't think there should be a holiday for this either. Going down in history books is where it belongs.
