Smokers and gambling go together?

Hi all,

This past week i was in a local casino that is split right down the middle, one half is a smoking section and the other is non smoking. The smoking half  always has many more players. Also, at the track, most people are smokers... do the two go hand in hand... gambling and smoking? I often wonder
How many members here at LCB are smokers? If you are... do you smoke three times as much when gambling?

Unfortunately I am one of them smoking 10times more when gambling... I smoke 2-3 cigarettes all the day and when I am in front of a slot I smoke 20.. These two go together fr me.. Sometimes I am thinking to stop both of them!

I'll bet when the race is at the post, your reaching in your back pocket for the pack of smokes... thinking, have to have a smoke while the race is going off... it's good luck, right?

Mrmpou, i think alot of people are just like you, seems to me that the two go hand in hand for most, and when losing, forget about it, one after the other right?

Smokers and Gamblers go hand and hand! Throw in a few cocktails and your living the high life! Why is it everything that is fun...is soooo bad!

Lips, your a smoker? Would never have guessed! I kinda thought Tony was, by some of our conversations lol  but i just didn't think you were. Am i a smoker? lol

I am compulsive in what ever I do...I drank to much, smoked a lot of weed, etc.

Smoked 3 packs of cigs a day, drank a LOT ..then one day I quit everything all at the same time..it was 1996. 

I switched it all to GAMBLING!!!!!  I haven't been the same

Funny you say that, because i have OCD big time, always have to have things in order, big time clean freak, compulsive gambler, not much into the drinking, but my 420 is what keeps me sane!
How did your body handle the shock when you stopped everything at once?
I don't thing my body could handle the shock if i quit all my vices all at once.

Ya, It was bad..I was doing a heavy duty detox, and I forgot to mention I decided to go on a diet at the same time.  I figured I might as well, because the smoking might make me gain weight, and I should probably just drink a lot of fluids anyway.  Didn't think I was going to come out of it alive..then about a month later, I felt great.  But I needed somewhere to put all my compulsive behavior, and that's when my gambling started. 

these two go together for me.  I smoke more when I'm in a losing mode.  Especially when I play BJ.  It helps me focus (just my thought).  I smoke more when I'm winning also.  I smoke even more if I am in land based casino, especially if I have to stay there overnight, smoking keeps me awake.  In a race track, they sell 1 pack of Marlboro for $8 when regular stores sell it for $4.50 before.  With $5.95 for 1 pack of Marlboro nowaday at regular store, I think it might be $10/pack at the race track.

I'm a smoker also, and yes......i smoke 10 times as much when i'm gambling, but i really think it has to do with nerves more than anything...i know that when i'm stressed or anxious in general i tend to smoke more, and when your gambling your almost always anxious for an outcome so you just keep lighting up.....not to mention there's really nothing else to do with your hands...............

OMG Last time I was in Vegas playing black jack and ran outta smokes!  I about died!!!  But I sure didn't hesitate to pay $15 bucks for a pack!!! sighhhh

I still hit the VLT's (I'm in the USA BTW) and they are in a neighboring state. They just passed (This year) that smoking was banned in taverns, restaurants and such...Now I wouldn't smoke all that much, but it does tend to be a pain to want a smoke, and you have to cash out your machine (Theft here is not uncommon) and then step out for a smoke.

Of course, the places are a bit cleaner, and smell better..I don't mind the restaurants banning, but sheesh..The bars ARE supposed to be dirty stinky places that real men only hit right?
