  • I thought I would share something I came across about a month ago. Me being a smoker wished I had known about them lots sooner. Some of you that smoke might know about them already as they have been out for a while. They are called Tarblock , plastic filters that you slip over the filter of your cig to cut down on tar and nicotine. Some have diff names, guessing diff companies putting them out there. The cost is fairly cheap, 30 filters for $3.00. You can use the same filter for up to like 7 cigs. You can even clean them afterwards and reuse. After using these and seeing all the tar and nicotine it does block, I won't smoke a cig without them.

  • Thanks for the info.  I'm going to look into those.
I think I saw a gal using one....just thought she thought she was being cool. laugh_out_loud

  • Hi guys, those filters have been out for decades I used to buy them, and yes you can see all the nicotine in it, but it still din't stop me/or slow down my smoking. I even tried the electronic cigarette they have out now and that surely did not work either. no hope for me.

  • Lol @ gabby..and you're welcome.
Lucy, nor do they slow me down. They aren't meant for that.  But, we need all the help we can get. If that means blocking all that icky, sticky, gooey  harmful chemicals, then i'm for em. I did quit for 1 1/2 years using the nicotrol inhaler. And too, I think you have to want to quit. And, even then, it doesn't seem possible for some.

  • You are so right eyesofgreen. A friend of mine is using the nicorite gum and she has stopped smoking, but now she is edicted to the gum. I guess I would rather be addicted to gum then cigarettes, but of course it did not work for me it gave me heartburn.

  • I quit last summer after 35 yrs of smoking..... but I had to.  I have COPD/Emphysema and my lungs are down to 25% of normal functioning, with no hope of improvement.  I'm only 54, and I'm pretty much confined to home now.

I couldn't quit before, and never wanted to, but after 2 hospitalizations in July last year for a total of 17 days, I pretty much had to.  I used Tootsie Pops and they really did the trick for me.

I sucked them all day long & all night long - I would even sleep with one in my mouth.  exclamation  One night I got up to go to the bathroom and I had a Tootsie Pop stick in my mouth, another stuck to my pajama top, and one stuck to the bottom of my pants leg.  laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud  Yeppir, I was hooked on Tootsie Pops!!  hehehehe

  • I too tried the electronic cigarette, lucy. I didn't get past the first cartridge. I kept dropping the damn thing. It was too heavy to hold between my fingers  LOL That was 50 bucks down the drain. I leave it out by my comp thinking maybe I'll pick it up again. Only ones that do pick it up are the non smokers asking, "what's this?". Then they have to take a drag. I can't count how many diff lips have been on that thing. So thinking as I'm typing this, there's no way I'm picking it back up tongue

  • Awww so sorry to hear that Lhasa. It's sad when it takes something that serious for us to quit. My dad and sister have  COPD also. My sis still smokes but Dad has quit only because he has alzheimers.
But, I had to laugh at the tootsie pop adventure  laugh_out_loud  laugh_out_loud  laugh_out_loud

  • Sorry to hear that Lhasa , its a shame how it comes down to a life threating situation to be able to stop smoking, its a shame that we can't stop before that happens. I believe that smoking is more addictive then any drugs out there.

I use the gum if I'm not going to be able to smoke for a long stretch.  Have to have it on a plane.  You know the feeling when you may not NEED a cigarette but knowing under no circumstances can you have one....uggh.
  • Sorry Lhasa.  I work in the medical field and see those diagnosis daily but sadly it's not enough to get me to quit.

  • I did try those plastic filters at some point but I didn't really like them so I reverted to plain smoking.

  • coffee and smoking is all i do i also wish i could stop i tried but the stress was making my blood pressure rise i cant win for losing frown

  • Sorry to hear that LhasaLover.

About 6 months ago I stopped smoking in the house because I couldn't stand the smell any more.  I have cut my smoking down by half but I really would like to give up but I just don't have the willpower.

  • It's great that you had the strength to quit Lhasa. I will get there someday. The tootsie pops did make me lol.

I was so silly to start. I enjoy a cigarette and will try to quit eventually.

  • .......OMG.......I thought I smoked alot!!!LOL!!!
  • Wow! That might be a bit too much for me.

  • 500 a day in 7 minutes flat.  LMAO

Wow, that brought back memories.  smiley  I used to do that when I was younger - was great for weight control.

Even now, I still have the urge to smoke one a couple of times a week.  I'm not one of those nasty ex-smokers, either.  Nosiree!  When I get the chance, I walk thru smokers with my nose in the air, sniffing up all that smoke!   tongue

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts.  smiley
  • lol Lhasa. There's definitely nothing worse than a snotty ex smoker fanning themselves when they were right there with you the week before laugh_out_loud

  • No kidding!!  My best friend was an ex-smoker a LOONNNNG time before me, and she drove me freakin' nuts!  hysterical
