    I haven't tested this but some say it works: you can stop the hiccups within one minute simply by swallowing a teaspoon full of dry sugar. Experts believe that the sudden sweetness on the tongue overloads the nerve endings in the mouth and stops the hiccup spasm.

    I've just always held my breath. I heard of someone that had the hiccups for weeks. Scaring him didn't work either. I guess they say that startling someone can help but never heard of sugar. Good to know!

    Don't know about the sugar.  My foolproof method that has worked for 50 years - swallow 9 times, then tilt your head back.

    (swallow whatever - tilt your head so you are looking up at the ceiling)

    According to the history channel, the Earth made us hiccup.  I saw this documentary, but can't remember all the details.  Basically it is something related to when we crawled out of the sea and started living on land and needed to take oxygen from air, not water.

    My dad use to swear by eating a piece of orange to get rid of the hiccups. Only problem was i don't like oranges (yes i know its crazy not to like oranges) but i do love orange juice  tongue

    Chilly i saw that same documentary and yes you are right it is supposedly a glitch of what we once were.
