  • So whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, you can all relate to a food disaster. Maybe one of your dishes went horribly wrong or you went over to someone's house and thought wtf is that.

This year we had pie disasters. The pecan pie never set so it was like soup.

We went to a friend's house and her mom had done nothing but brag about her baking and it turns out that almost every pie on that table was from a box. Nothing wrong with it but don't say it's homemade!

Please share your disasters with us.

  • My worst Thanksgiving disaster was the first year i had it at my house. Wanting everything perfect to impress my mom and dad who always had it every year. My mom said "are you sure you can handle this" and i was like of course i can!

What is the worst possible thing that could happen? My oven decided to go out and the turkey never cooked! We ended up having to go to my parents house to finish up the cooking!

  • I recall a Christmas when my Mum managed to get totally drunk on Bucks Fizz.  She wouldn't accept any help with the dinner and we ended up having a few peas, over-cooked turkey and roast potatoes and that was it.  My Mum usually prided herself on her Christmas dinners - we always had the works.  Not this time though.  It was just awful but the worst of it was when she was dishing up, the peas were going everywhere and she was just throwing the food on the plate.  It's funny now when I think about it but it wasn't at the time.

  • Haven't had any real food disasters since i really love to cook, and I think that I am not that bad at all, but my dad had a few interesting adventures (and he also likes to cook and is great, just I guess likes to experiment a bit more than me).
I remember him making bread one time, and he went a bit off with the yeast (the instant equivalent), so the bread had this epic crust that we couldn't cut with the knife smiley It had the looks and it smelled great, but we it was so hard on the outside, that we had to throw it away...

Oh, come on Lips, you can't blame yourself, it was your oven and could happen to anyone.. Hope your parents were cool about it...

  • I didn't have any cooking disasters though I have never prepared lunches or dinners for many people. I just don't like when food is greasy, or burnt of course, smiley and when people brag about their cooking skills but actually they are really bad in kitchen.

  • Eeek, we had some pie problems too and it's the worst! There is nothing you can really do at that point:(  I put my pie crust out to cool on the back porch and my sisters dog was in the yard grabbed it and ate it. Needless to say I was insane! On top of the pies not turning out had one ruined b4 it was even cooked!

I have to say though they are stressful moments, they are great memories and stories that will be told throughout the years.

  • I rarely touch the kitchen stuff and that because I am a disaster when it comes to cooking smiley

  • OMG the dog ate the pie crust friedeggs? Oh I would've been so mad!

  • Well, I can imagine how upset you were friedeggs... Well, at least it is one more story to laugh at, when you cool off a little bit later. Holidays are supposed to be fun, and time you can dedicate to the whole family, but usually the stress just builds up really quickly. In fact, I think that I am usually very stressed out during holidays smiley
