  • Hi Gang:
I think everyone can appreciate what Shelli and I was talking about in chat this morning.  We got to talking about how technology has advanced in the past twenty years and has made a few things rather funny when you think back on them.
How about the first cell phones? They were as big as a briefcase, and you plugged them into your cigarette lighter in your car.  No walking with that phone as you were attached to your car. How about rotary phones? It took you ten minutes to dial a long distance number, and if you messed up, you had to start all over again. lol
We talked about cassettes, and LP's vs 45's. You always had to have the little adapter in the 45 to play it on your Hi-Fi stereo, with two speakers. Each speaker had about 50 ft of speaker wire so you could put it anywhere in the house you wanted. No I-Pods back in the day.  cheesy
Anyone out there have a pager? I thought I was totally cool when I got mine. lol I wore it on my belt so proud.  We talked about 8 tracks, and instant polaroid camers. You'de take a pic and had to wait for it to develope right in your hands.
Something else I think of you'll never see again is a cigarette machine.  I used to go and buy cigarettes for my Mom out of those things as a kid. Not anymore.
After all is said and done, all I know is this...The "Oldies" they play on the radio nowdays is the music I grew up to in High School. HAHAHA
Anyone else have a flash from the past they can share for a good laugh?
    I enjoyed writing this...thanks for reading...                PMM2008

  • OMG!!! I am still laughing!  I had TOTALLY forgotten about Cigarette Machines!!!!  LMAO!!!  Great post Pammmmy!!  wink

    GOOD LUCK ALL!!
  • Haha..i can still find cigarette machines in a few bars, oh and they still have them at the casino's in Shreveport La.  I was just there a few months ago and saw them....I hate to say it, but regular C.D's are pretty much a thing of the past for me now. Ever since I can carry every single song I own in the palm of my hand, even better is if it get's stolen [i've had my cd case stolen too many times to count] i still got all my music on my computer, buying a new ipod is a hell of alot cheaper than replacing an entire cd collection.......ohh  and i love never having to look for and change cd's in the car, man do i love technology!! I can't wait to see what they'll come up with 10 years from now!!!!

Hey, what are talking about??  I still have an attic full of 8-tracks!!
Remember the size of those freaken things??!!!
    What a riot!
  • Here are a few from back in the day,

How about Atari and  playing "pong"... pet rocks... twister... Mood rings...socks with colored strips.... overalls...wearing that silver braclet with your name on it...rainbow colored suspenders...wearing your girlfrinds class ring on a chain around your neck... seeing the Mcdonalds sign and it said "over 200,00 served"...
Cars with bench seats so you could actually sit next to each other...Tv's with rabbit ears... feather earings...only channels on tv were 2 4 5 7 9 and 11... penny candy.
I got off the subject a bit, but thinking about the good old days made me think of these few things.
Ohhh how i miss those days, life was so simple.

    Trotter

  • that's ok trotter..you were really bring me back there grin

  • OMG Trotter!!!! the TV channels!!!! Remember when! lol

  • Shellie,
You know what i just thought of, When the first TV "boxes" came out back in like 73. Ours was the size of a shoe box, brown,25 cream color square buttons.... and a 30 feet brown cord gong to the tv. It was the box and remote all in one... scary.

    Trotter
  • Anybody out there remember "Boom Boxes?"  Carrying these huge stereos on your shoulder was incredibly cool.  The bigger they were, the cooler you were. laugh_out_loud
Had to have that extra BASS feature. Enough to rattle the entire city blocks windows when activated. (yet it was next to our ears tongue)

  • i remember the boom boxes they were really cool back then.

  • And if they had the digital colored bars that went up and down... you were really cool.

                                              grin

  • How about some old cars?? Pinto? Chevette? Gremlin? Nova? El camino? Vega?
What bomb was your first car in high school?

  • Actullay my first car has been one of my all time favs... it was a supped up 69 Olds 442, really nice actually, if i had it now it would be worth about $75,000. Had a 8cyl Chevy Monza, a 74 "gold" Duster, 70 mustang, 85 vette (still have) wish i had each and everyone of them now! Cars... i could talk old cars all day long!  grin

  • they don't make cars like they use to do.

  • I had some money when I graduated...(long gone now) I had a BRAND NEW, made to my specifications, right off the line, 1986 Grand AM. It was the coolest car I ever had. It was all lite up inside, cassette deck, big wide rims, and kick ass tires. Sun roof, and air conditioning. (it wasnt standard back in the day) Nice 6 cyl. I thought at 18 I owned the world when I started that car each day.  It was before I had to go to work to support myself.  Before I learned life wasn't always fair or fun. Before I had felt my first heartache. Before I saw my first gray hair.
I ran the tires off that car. I had put 60,000 miles on that thing in one year.  I  sold it, and to this day I wonder where my car ended up.  I understand what "love" is when people speak of a car they once owned.  Theres been many nice cars since, but nothing like my first one.

  • we had a 442..nice car

  • OMG  Remember Gremlins and Pacers!!!  laugh_out_loud

  • i remember gremlins and pacers real well.

  • If you have one of those Pacers or Gremlins there worth big bucks... they were so ugly, no-one bought them, so now there as rare as you can get. Not too many out there and people want them.
