I am soooo upset right now.  There are lots of stray dogs in my neighborhood, and cats.  I didn't ask for cats, but I have them.  And I just caught one of the collared dogs, my neighbor's, carry one of my cats away in his mouth.

My neighbors won't control their dogs, and it's a constant thing.  I'm pretty sure one of them is responsible for Kennie Kinkitty being gone as well.

sorry, had to let some of this out.

That's horrific, I am so sorry. Isn't there anything the police can do? Even if they are outside cats the dogs need to be chained up when they are outside. I will tell you though, if I ever saw a dog carrying away one of my cats in its mouth it wouldn't get very far cuz I'd shoot it.

It ran FAST.  Usually when I hear the commotion (the cats hide under my house, and the dogs usually come in the middle of the night) I can get out there in time to shoo them away.  And I thought it would let it go, but it hauled off down the street and around the corner.  Tried to find it driving around, but of course I am in the country and there is brush everywhere even though it's a neighborhood.  The people I thought owned it said all their dogs were home.

Called the animal control for the county, but it's the sheriff's office that answered and I don't know if they are going to pass it along to the animal control guy tomorrow or what.

I used to have rifles, but after my fiance was shot and killed in front of me, well, I kinda don't like having them around.  I had one of those pellet guns that shoots the plastic bbs but the dogs just jump in the air trying to catch them thinking I'm playing with them.

I can only hope that when the dog let go the cat was able to get away, but I don't think so.

        *UPDATE*
the animal control person called and got the description of the dog.  He said they caught four of them out here this morning, and have two traps set up pretty close to where I live.  Asked if he would tell me who the owner was if they caught this one, and he said it's going to be a gone dog no matter if it has a collar or not.

Omg, my sincere apologies, I did not know about your fiance. I know guns can be a touchy subject. I hope animal control is able to help you and I pray your kitty is okay.

thanks, gypsydreams.  It was 1988, so I am pretty much over the trauma of that.  I used to hunt deer and doves and teach riflery when I was like 10-16.  And I'd sure use a .22 if I had one against the bad dogs.

Looks like it was the little kitten that got taken.  I thought it was an uncle of his.  They are black and white.  Mama is tiny.  The runt of her litter, i guess.  I called her baby kitty until all of a sudden she is nursing kittens.  That makes two for the dogs for her.  One kitten left, a siamese-looking little thing.  I hope he makes it to adulthood.

thanks for your message, no need to apologize but I appreciate your kindness!

Oh no chilly. I'm sorry too to here about your fiance. That's awful. The poor kitty. I would have flipped out if I saw that. It's not much consolation but at least the dog may be caught. I pray your cat comes back. People need to keep an eye on their dogs. I hate seeing them run all over. They are doing what's natural to them but this didn't have to happen.

Thanks, froggy.  I've had other dogs come in the yard, most of them were very well behaved.  Just visiting and saying hi.  But this one in particular is viscious and hungry for cat.

All dogs in my neighborhood are supposed to stay in their yard, however the owner wants to accomplish that.  Well, the cats are also, so if my cat had been out on the street or at a neighbor's, well, I couldn't really be mad about it.  I do hope they catch this one.  He's a squatty shepherd mix, blonde, and quite the bully.

Omg that is awful chilly and you have to be terribly upset. I am shocked the dog even caught the cat because felines are pretty fast. I understand if it was my cat i would want to get the dog that killed it but at the same time i hate to see a dog put down too. There is no happy resolution  :'(

Yes, I kinda don't like the idea they might put him down.  I'd like to see them remove all his teeth or get to run around inside a tiger cage for awhile and see if it changes his attitude.  I'm going to try not to think about it.  If it had been the first time, or the second, for this dog, I might feel more generous.

I'm mad at the owner for not providing a proper enclosure, restraint system, or training for their animal.  There is a property owner's association that could foreclose on their property for breaking the rules about pets.  A fine, at the least was what I expected, but apparently the problem is so bad out here animal control is just taking the animals.

I hope they don't catch the wild fox that lives in the ds next to my property.  He hasn't tried to kill any cats in the 4-5 years I've been out here.

That is so sad, I'm so sorry for the cats, dogs and you. And that reminds me of when I came back from San Francisco, and dog got in the house(backdoor was broken and knew I should have reinforced before I left), found 2 liters of kittens, one in the drawer and one in closet. He must have eaten them, I didn't find their bodies anywhere. After crying myself to sleep, Ithe next morning found just one kitten with our mama dog and her puppies.

So sad to hear that this happened to your cat, Chilly. People should make sure that their pets stay in the yards especailly if they are dangerous.

thank all of you for your kind words.  I feel a little better this morning about it.  Helwin, how amazing that the mama dog took in the poor little kittie.

I guess I kinda have PTSD still from the experience with my fiance and a few other similar things I experienced.  I try to keep away from stressful things and losing a pet is pretty stressful.

Once when I was about 4 years old, I snuck into my brothers' llittle apartment behind the house.  I wasn't supposed to.  I knew that.  They had a parakeet in there that was on the loose.  I swear the second I opened the door, the cat ran in, dove for the bird and all there was left was feathers floating in the air and me screaming and crying at the horror and knowing it was my fault.  ugh.  Then I had to go admit my guilt to my mom, and well, just pets are very nice but life and death can be brutal.
