I am pretty sure most of you guys already heard about this news.

        KABUL, Afghanistan
Insurgents shot down a U.S. military helicopter during fighting in eastern Afghanistan, killing 30 Americans, most of them belonging to the same elite Navy SEALs unit that killed Osama bin Laden, as well as seven Afghan commandos... It was the deadliest single loss for American forces in the decade-old war.

        Source: AP

Both Presidents Bush & Obama have stated, many times, we are in Afghanistan because it is where we believed Bin Laden was hiding out; once we found him, we would remove our troops.
I can not help wondering we found him but why are we are still there?
And why they put this special unit of crews all together in a one Helicopter? I mean if they were some sort of trained intelligence group of people they should have been treated as valuable assets so why the risk?

We have lost our AAA credit rating because we are spending too much in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran & god knows where else.
When will these pointless battles come to an end?

However my thoughts are with the families and friends.

Sorry to hear about that, my country has lost a few good men in Afghanistan too... However, I don't think that the military spending is the cause behind the credit rating downgrade, it's the American economy that doesn't seem to work like it used to hence the high number of unemployed people.

It was indeed a very sad story to hear Nan.  The old saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket" comes to mind here.

conspiracy theory here, but I find it aweful funny that this happened right on the heels of Obama and his admin. being critized for their heavy war spending.  Our Amer. govt preys on fear.

The truly sad thing was, they were on their way for a "Rescue Mission" and I haven't heard what happened to those they were heading out to rescue.

I applaud all service people no matter area or job and am saddened that they gave their all to try and help their comrades.

Makes you wonder who achieved victory here was it the US or Bin Laden?

If my memory serves me right Bin Laden's mission was to put the US in a financial crisis. Looks like to me he succeeded with the state our country is in right now at the hands of our government.

It saddens me to think a super power nation could be destroyed by political hungry government. Jeopardizing our future for health care, pension and social security. Raising the debt ceiling was only a band aid on crisis that i'm not sure we will ever recover from not to mention the effect it has on a global level.

No shock Obama didn't keep his original promise (prior election) to get all troops out.

Many are killed by friendly fire.  It's always so sad.  Hearts to our service people who put their life on the line for us everyday.
