        Hiya Guys and Dolls,

I have always been fascinated by the twist of fate people have. Whether it is a lucky break for some one in the lime light or good fortune to the average person.

Here is a story that had more then one twist and turn......

        Evelyn Adams:

This American lady won the New Jersey Lottery not just once but twice and that too consecutively in the years 1985 and 1986. That’s a sum of $5.4 million that we are talking about. Now anyone would look at this and say ‘wow’, now that’s luck!’ but poor Adams lost the greater portion of this money at the slot machines in the Atlantic city and through gambling; she says she is ‘human’ and everyone makes mistakes but one can only wonder how the luckiest person goes from being fortunate enough to be chosen out of a million players and then becomes unfortunate enough not to maintain a single shred of that luck.

        Henry Ziegland:

The most unbelievable of all stories about bad luck, this one dates back to 1883. When Henry Ziegland broke up with his girlfriend, she was tormented enough to commit suicide. Her enraged brother drove to Ziegland’s place and put a bullet through him, and then took his own life with the same gun. Little did he know that the bullet had brushed past Ziegland and had lodged itself in the tree behind him. Lucky as hell, won’t you say? Unfortunately, the same fate turned against him as, some years later, he decided to take that tree down. He blew it up with dynamite, and the explosion sent the stuck bullet zooming into Ziegland’s head, finally killing its designated target.

        Frane Selak:

From the time period of 1962 to 1996, this Croatian music teacher met with a number of most deathly accidents; first the train he took to travel broke off the trail and plunged into the icy river beneath killing many others except Selak, the door of the plane he was flying on blew off and he was blown off the plane to land safely in a stack of hay, the bus he took crashed leaving many dead and Selak with minor injuries, his car caught fire twice and blew up, he drove off a cliff to avoid crashing into a truck and landed on a tree to watch his car explode beneath him. Now when you review these accidents, it brings to mind a man who managed to escape each time with nothing but minor injuries. Some would call it tremendous luck; others term it the worst luck ever! Selak did, however, meet with a less controversial sort of lucky time as he won a big lottery in 2003. Was it Lady Luck apologizing for all the mishaps? Possibly yes.

Julia Roberts caught her big break in Pretty Woman

Molly Ringwald turned down the role and Julia Roberts made it a block buster hit and launched her to super stardom.

What happened to Judy Garland was a sad twist of fate. Landing that role was a blessing and a curse for her  :'(

One of my favorite movies. I so wanted to be Dorothy.

I'm not sure if I believe in "fate."  I do believe in randomness, however.  Randomness will ensure that average stuff will happen to most people; however, a few will experience very bad "luck" and a few will experience very good "luck."

It's like with gambling.  There are TONS of people who gamble all the time and have never come close to a big hit.  However, there are plenty of stories of people who just dabbled in slots and won huge.

          Random.  Random.

Actor Billy Zane was supposed to get the role of Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing. If only he danced well enough, he would have been chosen...(Was originally cast as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing (1987). During auditions, choreographer Emile Ardolino realized that Zane could not dance, so the part went to Patrick Swayze.)

Heh...as you already know how much I am devoted to Patrick Swayze...watched/read almost everything about him, well...almost.heh!
Here is a little more detail... after they hired Jennifer Grey as 'baby' then they sought a male lead, initially considering 20-year-old Billy Zane, who had the visual look desired (originally the Johnny character was to be Italian and have a dark exotic look) but initial dancing tests when he was partnered with Grey did not meet expectations.
The next choice was 34-year-old Patrick Swayze, who had been noticed for his roles in The Outsiders and Red Dawn, in which he had co-starred with Grey.
Swayze was a seasoned dancer, with experience from the Joffrey Ballet.
The producers were thrilled with him, but Swayze's agent was against the idea.
However, Swayze read the script, liked the multi-leveled character of Johnny, and took the part anyway and Johnny was changed from being Italian to Irish.
Grey was not happy about the choice, as she and Swayze had had difficulty getting along on Red Dawn. However, the two of them met, worked things out, and when they did their dancing screen test, the chemistry between them was obvious....

Wasn't this a twist of fate or what!

Evelyn Adams thought she was invinciable and got greedy. Karma gets even with you and don't put money like that to a good cause.

I know,right...how in the world she gave away over 5.4 million? according to her, everyone had their hand out to her which I can understand but geez...just how much she gave away to each individual? that goes to show how easy come and easy go money is....

Remember this? "I m not a smart man...but I know what love is..."
Yes, that's right, it's Forest Gump, one of the most famous movies but do you know John
Travolta was the original choice to play the title role and he rejected the role when Tom Hanks signed onto the film after an hour and a half of reading the script which won Tom Hanks an Oscar!

John Travolta later admits passing on the role was a mistake.(ouch!)

A Twist of fate reunites a couple.........

Three days after their wedding, Anna Koslov kissed her husband Boris goodbye. A soldier in Russia’s Red Army, he was set to rejoin his military unit. The young couple expected that they would be together again soon, ready to begin the joys of married life, and to raise a family together.

But when Boris returned home from his military expedition, he found the house cold and empty. When he called his wife’s name, there was only the echo of his own voice. Anna was gone.

Under the brutal regime of Joseph Stalin, Anna and her family had been declared enemies of the state. Boris’ new bride was sent into exile in the vast plains of Siberia, with no chance to contact her husband. He didn’t even know if she was still alive.

“I threatened to commit suicide rather than go because I couldn’t live without him,” she told The Telegraph, “but in the end I was forced to go. It was the most miserable time of my life.”

Boris spent years searching for his lost love, but never found a trace of her. Over the years, both Boris and Anna remarried other people, and had children. But they never forgot about one another: After Boris became a writer, he dedicated a book to Anna, the woman he had loved and lived with for a mere three nights.

As time went by, Boris and Anna’s respective spouses passed away. In 2007, Anna, a lonely widow, went back to visit the old house where she and Boris had spent those precious few nights. Now an elderly woman, she wanted to pay tribute to the time they’d shared there, knowing that she would never see her husband again.

In a remarkable twist of fate, the town received another long-lost visitor on that very same day – an 80-year-old man who had come to lay flowers at his parents’ gravestone. But when he caught sight of the woman across the road, he knew something else had drawn him there.

“I thought my eyes were playing games with me,” Anna said. “I saw this familiar-looking man approaching me, his eyes gazing at me. My heart jumped. I knew it was him. I was crying with joy.”

It was Boris, the man she thought she’d lost for good 60 years ago.

“I ran up to her and said: ‘My darling, I’ve been waiting for you for so long. My wife, my life…” he said.

“I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Yes, I had loved other women when we were separated. But she was the true love of my life.”
