The "GRAIL" dual spacecraft project where launched in early September and sent to Study the moon as we still know little about how it was formed.  In fact we know more about Mars than our own moon.  It is expected that they will be in orbit on New Years Eve!!!

I think this is cool,  I love astronomy !

The first of the "GRAIL" lunar spacecrafts has successfully reached lunar orbit with the second to follow on new years day.  The are designed to take images to discover why the dark side of the moon is so rigid and covered with mountains as opposed to the side we see which is mainly smooth.  It is believed that once we had 2 moons and the smaller one crashed into the larger one millions of years ago and that is why the terrain is so different.  Just watched a story on the news,  I think it's cool
