Virginity Inspection

Brides-to-be in Georgia are apparently undergoing "virginity inspections" before the marriage.

The independent National Forensics Bureau in the former Soviet state of Georgia is offering this rather unusual service for £69 but if you are in a hurry you have to pay double. That's pretty expensive since it's a bit more than the average monthly salary in Georgia.

The women are often accompanied by relatives, their prospective husbands or  their mothers-in-law, bureau medical expert Eka Chavleishvili reveals. "In many cases, they leave very happy when they find out the truth - that is, if the truth is acceptable to them," she says.

If I was a woman I wouldn't accept to do this for anything in the world, tradition or not. You can't check the wife like you check a car before buying it...

I totally agree Johnny. Also, I heard that women can restore their virginity today with a surgical procedure called Hymenorrhaphy and from what I read about it, it seems to be pretty common in some countries (while banned in others). Not sure if inspections you talk about can uncover such procedures, but if they cant that they are pretty much meaningless...

I think that women shouldn't accept to be checked like that. That's degrading.

Maybe they first do a close up check, and then call the clinics to check if the bride to be had a hymenoplastic operation. I wonder if they give a document stating the girl is an authentic virgin:-)

That is one of the most insane things I have ever heard! What woman would even do that? Total invasion!
