  • Not long ago I watched a documentary film called The Stoning of Soraya M. which is based on a true story.
I was so emotionally disturbed by the story of how very horrid and antiquated practices that are still happening in this world...
Such chauvinism, mercilessness, and jaundices inflicted upon women are inhumane and repulsive...

That's why when I first read this news I got very angry but later found out that it provokes two different sides.

    Here is the first one.

A would-be teen beauty queen was stoned to death after her participation in a Ukranian pageant reportedly infuriated local Muslim youths.

Katya Koren, 19, was targeted by three fellow teens who said her seventh-place finish in the beauty contest was a violation of Muslim laws, according to British newspaper reports.

One of the suspects, identified as 16-year-old Bihal Gaziev, told authorities that he had no regrets about the stoning because the dark-haired Koren "violated the laws of Sharia."

The teen's battered body was found buried in the forest near her village in the Crimea section of the Ukraine. She had disappeared a week earlier.

Koren, described by friends as a stylish dresser, finished seventh in the beauty pageant. The British newspapers said the girl, just like her attackers, was a Muslim.

    And here is another.

At first it appeared that she had been stoned to death for disobeying Sharia law.

But glamorous Muslim beauty queen Katya Koren may actually have been battered with a rock by a crazed stalker after she spurned his advances.

The body of the 19-year-old was found dumped in a remote forest on the Crimean peninsula days after she went missing.

She had died in agony after suffering horrific blows to the head from stones or rocks.

Initial reports suggested that Ms Koren had been battered by three local men after flouting the strict Islamic law. Sharia law prohibits women from taking part in beauty contests.

But police have now said that Ms Koren may have been attacked by a deranged classmate who had been besotted with the teenager.

The man is believed to have given Ms Koren a ride on his moped before robbing her and possibly raping her. He may then have battered her to death with a rock.

'A student did it, killing his classmate. There is no other underlying reason, neither religious nor linked with inter-ethnic conflicts,' Sergei Reznikov, a senior policeman involved in the case, told the Telegraph.

Experts said that around 250,000 Muslims live in the area between Crimea and the Ukraine but that there had never been any major examples of religious violence in the past.

There have also been virtually no cases of stoning being administered as a punishment in the desolate region.

Police said the main suspect in the case is 16-year-old Bihal Gaziev. They said he has a history of mental illness.

It is still not clear why Ms Koren was killed. Gazievhas reportedly confessed to the killing and is said to have told local media that the murder was carried out in the name of Sharia law.

Police said that more psychological tests are being carried out on the suspect.

Stoning is a divisive subject among Muslims, with some groups interpreting it as Islamic law and others disagreeing.

According to Amnesty International's annual report on death sentences worldwide, issued in April, there were no reports of judicial executions carried out by stoning in 2010.

At least 10 women and four men remained under sentence of death by stoning at the end of the year in Iran, where adultery is the only crime which carries that penalty under Sharia law.

It was widely imposed as a sentence in the years following the 1979 Islamic revolution, and even though Iran's judiciary still regularly hands down such sentences, they are now often converted to other punishments.

What do you think? Do you think this is just a cover up?
  • I believe she was stoned and the police are using a cover up.

I saw part of a stoning in a documentary.  OMG.... I would seriously find a way to kill myself before I would be put in a bag, in a public forum with people cheering, as everyone started throwing small stones and then bigger and bigger ones until I was slowly killed.

    A horrendous way to die.

  • Unfortunately the Sharia law is still in place in some Muslim countries but I believe that it will come to an end soon, women are beginning to make their voice heard in those countries.

  • Education education education.  You keep a people ignorant and you can control them, education them and they will demand their human rights.

  • There is another twist to this. These so called Muslims, as I understand, have been brain-washed, and still believe they are carrying on the traditions, of their religion. When in fact there not, there only following some self made prophet, going by that individuals beliefs.
We just need to look at Bin-ladin, and the problems he caused. Heres another thing that occurs over there. These people basically live in poverty, huts, they wear rags and sandels. The oil people come to a village, theres attorneys following these oil people, The oil people do there testing, find oil, and if a family or a village is nearby, and thses attorneys can prove that the land is theres, meaning the villagers, these people over night go from rags to riches, (millionares).
This is why there are so many problems over there. These people have no idea how to act, or behave, with these new found riches. Thus the Muslim religion gets all turned around. Just an example, as we know in our bible, ( which can be very difficult to read and understand, If one reads the old testament), the same happens with their Koran, (spelling might be wrong). Two people read the same page out of their book, when asked for their opioion, an individual, or group, gets 2 totally different answers.
Just a thought, yes education is the answer, god only knows how long this will take, to get these people up to date.
                                              Rico
