What's Your Name?

A woman in the US has won a battle to have her full name put on her driving licence. Wait for it, wait for it...

... here's the name:

Janice Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele

Hawaii government computer systems are to be upgraded by the end of the year, allowing her to have her full name on her driving licence and ID card, the current system allowed just 35 characters.

Ms Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele says that her name has many layers of meanings including "one who would stand up and get people to focus in one direction when there was chaos and confusion, and help them emerge from disorder". Sounds a bit redundant to me

She was unwilling to change the name back to her maiden name, which was way more compact: Worth.

I have to admit that I would want to change my name (my real one that is) because my family name is double-barrelled, my father and mother decided to combine their names into one after getting married. Needless to say the resulting name is quite long and it makes filling out forms time-consuming.

What a name and i thought  mine was bad. There is only about a handful of people with my name.

I saw this news item too.  She said it is a true Hawaiian name and she won't change it.  I don't think I would change it tbh.  It would be like disprespecting her (dead?) husband.

No way I would change my name because a computer system couldn't support it. It is a little long, yes but if I lost my husband I would not change it!

Its insanely long, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I think all of us carry honor in our last names it shows where we came from. Good for her for fighting the system and winning!

My last name is 12 characters long plus my first, Chantel so just shy of 20 letters total! ! I'd definitely choose my maiden name if i was Janice Keihana etc.

That's a long name and I agree with her, I wouldn't change my name either.
