  • Hi Members,

Its a matter of time before online gambling will be allowed in the US. However, the bill that has been put before congress has not even been looked at. At this point it won't be discussed til after the first of the year.

Some analysts predict that the states will legalize online gambling before the Federal Government does. With the slow economy and the delay in reviewing the bill by congress, it is suspected that there will be a race for the first state to legalize online gambling.

Which state do you think will be first? At this point California and Florida seem to be the top contenders. With California being further ahead in discussions, they seem to be the logical choice. But with the potential for "the race for the first state", its anybody's guess.

  • I really think the state of Florida will be first. I have read it had already been discussed by the state to legalize gambling in the state. I at one time heard the rumor they were talking about making slot games legal.

  • I hope it is California!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!    grin grin
  • LOL Shelli, and I hope it is Florida

  • Well we know it won't be super SLOW and STRICT Washington State  sad since California is closer I am going with CALI wink

  • Yippeeeeee! California...the golden state rocks cool

Our govenator tongue is looking for money...even had a state garage sale LMAO

I think we'll be first grin

I agree SJ, this state (while beautiful and nice) needs that stick yanked out from you know where. cheesy
  • I hope it takes a loooooooog time to be legalized.  Who wants to pay tax on winnings?

  • I hope it's Virginia lol!! grin

  • I hope they don't do ANY.  Right now, it is a little tricky with deposits and a few headaches with withdrawals.  But, I am sure such problems would continue even if states legalized online gaming.  AND if it is more mainstreamed in the USA, then there would be administrative hassles....more paper work, tax forms, etc.  Keep it as is!

  • Doc,

But isn't there a lot of advantages by making online gambling legal? I would rather fill out a few papers than be duped out getting a nice chunk of change from a withdrawl. As it stands there is no where to turn should this happen.

I also like to think big!!!!!!!! Playing progressives is not really a good idea online. Most casino sites want to avoid big wins from American players. Too much public attention from hitting a huge jackpot puts the casino in jeopardy.

The main reason i would like to see it legalized is to protect our rights from shady casinos. Lets face it, every time we play....we run a risk of not getting paid. I don't think that is as much of a problem with other countries where it is legal.

  • I agree lips.  Heaven knows we could use the tax dollars generated by gambling online wink
I'm for spreading the wealth cool

  • I agree with drpsyce38.  There will be taxes involved guys.  I for one am not in favor of that.  For the IRS you can claim losses up to your winnings, but in my state all gambling winnings must be claimed as income and you can't take off your losses.  I think Illinois is the same as well.

As far as being protected from shady casinos, do you think online casinos would start up in the US?  That could be I guess.  If not, there is no way anyone would go after a casino in another country.  It just costs too much money.

  • I agree with you Lips. I don't mind paying taxes on my winnings. If I win in a land casino I have to pay taxes. If you wanna play you should have to pay. I feel like right now the way it is we in the US have no way of protecting ourselves from getting ripped off by some of these casinos. I for one hope it goes through. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is just the way I feel and I do respect others opinions. I would probably play more online if it was legal and I didn't have the fear of being questioned about my winnings or being able to deposit without a hassle.

  • Why I am hoping online gaming is not mainstreamed in the USA.  (Note, I use the term mainstream instead of legalized.)  First, just because a USA online casino is handling things does NOT mean you'll have worry free deposits/ withdrawals.  Secondly, why involve the US Government?  Do want online gaming to run with the same effectiveness as the US Postal Service?  The Pentagon?  The IRS?  The Veteran's Department?  Anything the US Government manages because a tangled mess.  I feel the best approach is a libertarian one...HANDS OFF.

  • I don't think the government will try to run it, it will be run by the ones that own the online casinos. The government will want their share as in tax money.

  • Even IF the government "just taxes" it will mean the US government will have lots of details about your personal life....and what you DO with your life; meaning, Uncle Sam will know you are a gambler.  Well...keep in mind my bias.  I dislike government interfering with our lives and taxing people is not a good idea.  That is just my 2cents from my perspective.  I certainly respect other people's views.

  • The government already knows practically everything about us anyway. I respect your opinion and agree with alot of what you say. One way or another they will get the tax money from us. We will just have to see what happens. I don't think it will ever pass anyway.
